My Abit Board BF6 system started beeping one night continuously. When I checked it out the next day it was doing the same thing. After checking everything over and over again and flashing the Bios, I came to the conslusion that the Board was Dead, so I ordered a new Board this time a Soyo 6BA+100, because I have another system with that particular Board and It has been running perfect. So I installed my new Board and It started allwright, everything Bios was doing perfect and when
it started detecting the hardware (Video Card, Audio..etc) then windows started crashing over and over again and after rebooting sometimes I could get to windows but in safe mode. It had problems until it went dead. I tried flashing the bios with no luck. Well I tried many ways and I thought that the power supply was bad, So I purchased a new Case, then I started all over again and the Board was dead: so I came to the conslusion that there is something in the Hard Drive writing back to the Bios and killing it. Is there anyway that someone could do that? I dont know how it came to my system, I use cable modem and win98SE but, I also have a firewall.:|

I got hit by the Chernobyl Virus (W95.CIH) a few years ago, the first time, it just f*cked up my HD, so I had to reformat and do it again, little did I knwo taht the virus was still lurking somewhere else.... A year later, on the same exact date... 3 of my computers were infected, but only one got hit hardest, with the BIOS being dead... completely unbootable... that was on my ABIT BH6. The other two computers just needed to be reformatted, etc....

hope this helps

Damn I'd be pissed, I have a BF6 and that's one FINE motherboard. I always format when I install a new motherboard, even if it's the same chipset. I'm sorry to hear of what happened :( :(

Probably the boot sector of your HD was infected. Did you fdisk and fdisk /mbr before you formatted? Boot from a floppy to do that.

I recall a virus that infects systems with a flopy. and there is only one way to clean up that virus and it needs a special rescue disk, because as soon as u insert it into a system the hard drive is infected. so imagine id a boot floppy has the virus...
well if u try to format it u need to insert it into the floppy drive but as soon as u do the HD is infected so u need a rescue disk to boot with and to be on guard for the virus and kill it b4 it spreads.
