I'd gladly take a Budweiser over that stuff.

That really is the sensation i got from it. Skunk tasting, bitter, and foul.

You probably won't like other, proper lagers, then. Most people who are raised on domestic swill find good lager tastes off. However, Heineken really is pretty ******, so you're forgiven there.

Heineken is the first beer most people graduate to from drinking domestic piss.

I think people only order and drink Heineken to make it appear that they are more "sophisticated" or whatever term you would like to use. That beer is nothing short of 100% ass.

I agree.

When I see people drinking Heineken, I immediately think they're doing it for the perceived snob factor. It's a foreign beer and they can regale their friends with their knowledge of the finer things, while putting down people who aren't as sophisticated.

You can't buy class.

I like Amstel much more than Heinekens

when i was in amsterdam the locals drink way more amstel

but american micro beer is better yet, I drink amstel in the states once in while , but sometimes it's old/mishandled. it tasted better when it was fresh in Holland

import beer has a disadvantage, time/age, handling going from different temps, get shook up

Especially not by buying beer.

Heineken is my safe bet beer, if I don't know what I want I'll get a Heineken and think about it. Yeungling Lager too but not many places outside of PA carry it.

Guiness and other stouts are good as a starting out beer but you can't really have more than one without feeling really full.

I've been going on a Delerium (Tremens and Nocturnum) binge recently.

you think so? As you said stouts are a bit too filling to drink at first, I usually go for an Ale or IPA before the dark stuff (porter or stout).

that's quite an expensive binge 🙂 btw, what's the difference between the two Dilerium?

I think many people believe just because it is "foreign" or imported it is somehow better. One of the first beers I bought when I was legal was Heineken and I hated it. Years later I was in Europe and decided to give Heineken another try, and I still thought it was the most wretched thing to drink.

There are plenty of mighty fine North American beers out there that are very much superior to other imported beers. Not saying all imports blow or all domestics are great, but one shouldn't judge a beer solely on it's origin.

That being said I also wouldn't judge somebody's class by what beer they drink. For me it is always situational. I usually hate stuff like Bud, but sometimes while grilling, at a BBQ or a sports game a Bud just seems to fit the ambiance better. So if I see somebody at a baseball game eating a hot dog and drinking a Bud Lite, I am not about to judge them as being without class - it's a baseball game for heaven's sake. However if they are at a more upscale type restaurant with a good selection of brews and they choose a Bud, I may have to pass some sort of judgement in that situation.

I like to start full and ease my way out, especially after a full day of work🙂

Tremens is a pale ale, Nocturnum is a dark. I like the Tremens better, you can taste the alcohol more in the Nocturnum which is a little too much sometimes. Apparently they also make a Noel too so I have to see if my beer guy can get me a case.

and the Noel is? their Christmas Ale?

I watched some show on discovery or TLC that had a small feature on Heineken. They have been around for a long while in the brewing industry and set some milestones. In the early to mid 1900's their sales were struggling, that's when they started using advertising mediums to create a new image for themselves. They have been on a roll ever since.

It's not a bad beer by any means, it all depends on what type of brew you like.
As for the image part, it you're looking for some sort of status from beer, you've got some issues.

yep people drink beer as a status symbol
some younsters like corona, to make themselves look higher classed, plus here in the twin cities, MN area Michelob Golden Draft Light is a big beer with some, they think there big stuff becuase it has a ribbed bottle, I think it sucks

but what really sucks is Michelob Amber bock

I drink Summit pale ale the most

A few moments ago i had a few heinekens. I very rarely go for a beer. I have had quite a bit of cogniac in the pasted and love the flavor there. Why does this heineken taste like crap? From what people said it was suppose to be one of the better beers.

Blah, disappointed.

I don't like Hiney much. Good enough to pass, but will order something better if they have it. Better than Bud.

goat urine is better than bud.

i'm pretty sure that everything except Natty and Beast is better than bud.

I like Heineken and Becks, a lot of my friends say it tastes like crap though. Just a matter of what you want to drink, as long as it's not Natty. Go get yourself a Pabst or MGD.

If you like cogniac I'd strongly recommend Gouden Carolus, Noel (the seasonal winter brew). They're brewed in cogniac casks 🙂. Also, I believe Alagash Four is brewed in cogniac casks as well. I'm also a cogniac fan; especially in the winter.

<clink>

I've never tried Allagash 4, however, Allagash White is friggin incredible.
It's definatly among my top 10 favorite beers. Right alongside Hoegaarden.

To the OP, listen to this man, his suggestion sounds very wise.

Heineken is the only beer I've tasted (my dad likes only that and Sam Adams), and I'm only 15, so I'm guessing it doesn't taste too bad compared to beers (had a virgin beer in a restaurant once, Odouls, and it tasted like crap).
