A bad example of DRM

DRM generally sucks, the large scale pirates always find a way around it and the only ones left inconvenienced are the people who legitimately own the software/movie/music.

Yup, what he said. It sucks if this is the eventual outcome of DRM.

where?s my rights as a consumer?

To buy or not to buy. Unfortunately he was not aware of the DRM when he bought it; I'm not sure if it lists an internet connection on the system requirements, but if it does that would be a pretty obvious sign that it uses DRM. It ought to be listed on the back cover so a person knows that they are agreeing to limited usage rights when they buy the product, since you can't return opened DVDs.

but it DIDN'T list any region requirements or third-party media player requirements.

wow that sucks, that stupid InterActual Player also SUCKS, ive never installed it ive always been able to play the DVDs in WMP, power DVD or Zoom player

InterActual Player comes on MANY DVDS, hell like 1/2 the ones i own hae that crap on them,

Yeah that sucks. I figure DRM will just increase piracy. How many people out there have bought XP but use the corp version just to avoid having to re-activate upon each hardware upgrade?

There is a Region 1 symbol on the back cover (right next to the DVD symbol), and it lists the system requirements for the third-party media player, which is included on the disc.

Sure enough, it also specifically lists Interactual player and an Internet connection (at least 56kbps I think, I suppose if he wanted you to be able to read it he would have scanned at a higher resolution). So all requirements and limitations are clearly listed on the back of the package. Not sure what the problem is.

Mugs, why are you such an advocate of DMCA and DMR? I keep seeing you posting in Video/Software with pontifications concerning this legislation.

I hate the DMCA and DRM. As I said, it ought to be indicated on the back so a person can decide not to buy the movie if they don't want to deal with DRM. In this case though, much of what the guy said is a complete lie - he even posted a picture of the back of the case to prove it.
