Hi folks,

I just got an Asus P5RD1-VM motherboard for a new system
I'm building and was down to plugging in the power supply
and I noticed that the motherboard has 24 pins on the power
connector and my power supply only has 20 pins!

I've not bought any "new" hardware in a while.....what's up?

Have they changed the power supply types lately?

Am I going to have to buy a special power supply to use this board
or do they make some kind of adapter that will allow me to use the
board with a 20 pin power supply?

Any and all help appreciated!

hey i just got a 24-pin powersupply for my old computer that only has a 20 pin connector. However im not sure if a 20 pin psu would work with a 24 pin mobo. 24 pin is a new connection to the powersupply that sends much more power than a 20 pin connector. Circuit city said that only psu's with 400 watts or more have 24 pin but that is not true because i have a 350 watt psu with 24 pins. Anyways that just means that your mobo is more powerful :) and demands more power.

The link to the thread explains a lot.

The mb I have has onboard video since it's just going to be
a work machine running plain old programs with no fancy
graphics.

I've ordered one of the 20 to 24 pin power adapters so I can
use the mb since I've already got everything mounted and don't
want to pay as much for a power supply as I did for the mb. :)

Thanks,
Jim
