Greetings Fellow Gamers,
I need some advice please, I've ran a search here for LCD monitors for gamers and I'm just as confused still ;)

So, all you gamers that love your 20"/21" LCD screens please let me know which one you use and what it does well and doesn't do well. I am always on my computer as I game a lot but I also use it for photo editing and a hell of a lot of web surfing.

I've found over at Newegg there are a lot of 20"/21" LCD screens that look great to me but I thought I would come on here first and get the real low-down from you guys/gals first.

Btw, I'm looking to spend around $280.oo to $400.oo as that seems to be the price for what appeals to me, also one more question. It seems to me that the LCD resolution is
1680 x 1050 so I just checked my own computer settings and I don't have that particular resolution,

so does the new LCD monitor box have drivers for that or what??

Thanks,
James

I was one of the ppl who stood in line for a westinghouse lcm-22w2 (i think) from best buy on black friday. Got it for $200. Yeah!!! it's a 22" monitor with component, S-Video and RCA inputs. For gaming, it's brilliant (not so awesome for heavy graphics editing)....

Now, the good part. This retails for 500 bucks, but a lot of ppl bought it off best buy and tried to resell it, it's selling on ebay (due to saturation) for around $225-250 bucks... THat's a bargain over all other 20, 21" monitors if you ask me :)

Advice-- get the seller to include the receipt... so you can exchange the monitor in case of problems.

:) Also, search online for reviews. I play all kinds of games on this, and never had a problem. Resolution of 1680x1050 is the sweetest I've seen :)

Since you want to do photo editing and gaming but all on a budget, you're going to have to decide what to give up. The ideal panel for you will probably be a S-IPS panel, which is effectively a high-end part that commands a high-end price; $450+ for a 20" 4x3(1600x1200) and $550+ for a 20" 16x10(1680x1050). The advantage is that the S-IPS has excellent color reproduction(good for photo editing) while still having a high enough response time to be good for gaming. There is a very good thread in the Video forums I'd recommend you check out, it's a buyer's guide for LCDs that should be able to answer your questions.

22" SAMY

CHIMEI 22"

so if any of you have these please let me know how you like them,

Thanks,
James

I do photo editing also and I use this Sceptre X20WG
Excellent monitor, clear bright colors and text and no ghosting in games.
Don't let the price fool you, the quality is outstanding. Just a thought.

idk why people don't get these more it's basically a 2007WFP with the stuff you don't really need cut out to save money and make it cheaper.

if you want the connections get a 2007WFP look for rebates and such
Because it's not a 2007WFP, it's the cheapest 20" LCD Dell can make. That means it's a TN panel, which means the response time is fast, but the contrast, viewing angles, and color fidelity are all poor.

N2: Go with a 20" panel, not a 22". At your price range, a smaller panel at the same price as a larger panel will likely offer better visual quality.

my bad I didn't know it was based on a TN panel

the 2007WFP is still S-IPS right? If so I'd look into that

The 2007WFP is a lottery; some are S-IPS(but it seems few these days) while others are PVA, and I forget the 3rd type(xknight would know).

That's the only one that's widescreen, other than the shifty dell panels... >_>
Anyway, I would take a look at the LG 204WT. I have the 19" version and love it. It is a TN panel, but the color reproduction is very good thanks to dithering and dynamic contrast. No ghosting whatsoever in any game so far and text looks clear. All you could want, unless you're a fro photographer... :D
