Imagine this: You're gushing blood. Nothing seems to make it stop. Then you apply a gel to your wound, and within seconds, the bleeding stops. In minutes, you're healed.
This is the premise of VetiGel, an algae-based polymer created by Joe Landolina -- a 22 year-old who invented the product when he was just 17.
Landolina is now the co-founder and CEO of Suneris, a biotech company that manufactures the gel. Last week, Suneris announced that it will begin shipping VetiGel to veterinarians later this summer. Humans won't be far behind.

Looks promising. Sounds Predator-like.

They're going to begin shipping humans to vets? o_O

This or a similar product should standard in first aid kits. I'm on Coumadin and I would love to keep this around the house and have it in a car. My blood is thinned 1 1/2 times thinner than normal people so that means I'm 1 1/2 times likelier to bleed out when severely cut.

How soon until "big band-aid" shuts them down? :p

I wish I was that smart at 17 years old. Looks like something everyone should have around the house.

So like gel-ified quikclot on steroids. Interesting.

You have Quikclot? That stuff in the OP is for your pets. Quikclot is for humans.

And, we have piles of clotting agent here. It's not really that novel of a product, except that it's made from seaweed, though I don't know or care the origin of my other clotting stuff, so can't say that it's not derived from algae. When I cut hooves, it's right next to me. Goats bleed like a stuck pig when you clip just a tiny bit too far into their hooves.
