he car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics. The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The amazing thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG!
The Toyota Prius hybrid has only 55MPG (combined city and highway).
With one tank (20l) you could drive 1,300km.

Loremo AG plans to sell the Loremo LS for less than 11,000 Euros (~$13,000).

that's a little hard to believe honestly...

To weigh that little, it can't be very safe. It also sounds like it will get owned by slight incline.

I heard a story on NPR about mod kits for some of the hybrids that are coming into the retail market that make them get mileages like that. It's expensive to get done, but it sounds interesting.

Was that the piece about those guys who made a Prius into a plug-in car again and got ~95 mpg? That was pretty amazing.

No it wasn't he got the same MPG as before, but he now got his power from the grid instead of gasoline.

that's the cool thing about hybrids. They area designed for universal appeal, resulting in a balance of power and efficiency. If you want to tweak efficiency, there is a fair amount of room for improvement.

Hell, just the way you drive a Prius can result in an easy 5-20% difference in fuel economy.

They'll be fun toys when they are more mass produced. Especially as they get older. Anyone know if battery backs still run $3-4000?

I'd buy one of those cars if it really got 157mpg. as long as it could hit 100km/h, I'd be more than happy with that.

you do realize that is down a steep incline with a 50mph backwind 😉

And the car has a 0-60 time of 5.8... minutes.

I'm thinking for that car to get that, it must be very lightweight and not very durable. Also, I'd bet it'd get pwned by the hills and the snow we get around here.
