When they say that ASII Epoxy is "permanent"... believe them :Q

This was after 2 hours in the freezer and the old "butter knife" trick.
See here > http://www.geocities.com/blain450/Oops.JPG

I was playing with this Celeron 466 and wanted to switch the HS to a faster Celeron. Not now I guess!

Yup, it doesn't come off to easily. Unless you don't let it dry long enough. My friend found that out the card way and lost a TNT2 when a freshly mounted Blorb fell off it.

This CPU/HS combo was clamped up for almost 24hrs. I thought... well maybe I can pop it apart, like a video card HS.
I was SOooo wrong

can't you try to permeate some solvent like isopropanol or acetone to the contact area and see if it dissolves the epoxy?

I really think it's just because you have no clue about what you were doing! I mean, c'mon ASII Epoxy?? :p
You know about as much about Computers as me! ;)

well look on the brightside, you're the only one with a FC-PGA celeron 466 :)

i cant really tell from the pic, but how is the die setup on those chips?
ie. is that the underside or the top of the die?

maybe theres a slim chance it will still work?

well, if it does work, you could prbably OC better :D

yeah, dude, see if a heatsink can come in contact with the exposed core, and if it can, overclock the sucker! :D if you ever epoxy a heatsink onto something you might someday want to replace, it is a good idea to make a mixture of 50% epoxy and 50% arctic silver grease. that will still give a good hold, but it should come off a lot easier.

I wanted a tight, thermally great bond. That's why I went with the epoxy. I basically wanted to play around with it to see how it all worked out. IF the 466 would have been a good OCer, I would have left it alone.
I wanted the HS so bad because of all the hacksaw time I put into it.
See the "hacking" here > http://www.geocities.com/blain450/HackEmUp.JPG :D

Hacking and Lapping... you can't beat that for good clean fun! That HS was just the perfect size for my Celeron 667 @ 970 ;)

Ok ok, I should have tried to OC the 466 right off the bat. That would have given me some indication that it wasn't up to par. Like I told Matty...

Someone has to do this type stuff for you guys, don't they?
BTW, I just installed the CPU using some ASII and a good Vantec HS... IT BOOTED UP AND STARTED WINDOWS @ 560MHz! :D
It soon locked after that. So I'm going to let it cool down and try it again at default settings. IF it runs ok there, I still don't know what I'd do with it.

The sad thruth is that after it becomes a thermoset nothing can disolve epoxy.
