Title says it all...
Do we really need to be able to reply every 15 seconds? Isn't that what chat rooms are for?

Hi Blain :)

Please post some examples, so we can understand your gripe.

Just go to the For Sale/Trade forum

I'm NOT singling anyone out, this is ONLY an Example of the bumpage that has taken root in the FS/T forum.

Being able to sort threads by column would be nice, instead of "Last Post"...
But that will happen when pigs fly. :p

I like Dogs playing Poker better! ;)

My Dad had some authenticated prints, were real looking dogs were sitting and playing poker, smoking cigars, etc.

They are worth some money today, but nobody can find them. :(

WOW, that's a big NO-NO in the F/S forums! And a good way to earn a vacation from the forums. I wouldn't mind the time interval increased a little, but 5 mins in far too long. I often like to quote reply a few people in a thread and it'd be really hard to do with a 5 min maxium.

I agree that the bumping has gotten out of hand. It's ridiculous that I patiently wait 4 hours to bump my thread, then someone decides to go on a bump spree. I'll get my thread to the top, and within minutes, it's replaced by 2 pages or 30+ bumps because I was unfortunate enough to bump just before some idiot decides it's time to up their post count.

However, I have no idea what the mods can do to combat the problem. I know we are all guilty for bumping a few friends here and there. But when a noob jumps in and bumps 30+ threads, it gets a little frustrating. They will end up ruining it for everyone.

Hopefully it doesn't come down to the strict rules like they have in place at redflagdeals.com:

1.Users other than the original poster are not allowed to post a message to a Buy, Sell, and Trade thread solely for the purpose of bringing it to the top of the thread list (AKA "bumping"). Only legitimate questions or concerns may be posted to a thread.

We are implementing this rule for a number of reasons:
~To prevent the bump trading. Bump trading makes it difficult for new or occassional sellers and buyers to use the BST forums.
~To make tracking down threadcrappers easier.
~To prevent users from bumping merely to increase their own post count.

Wow, it almost seems as if there is a script running to automatically bump after time = 15 seconds.

There's a rule in that forum about bumping only every few hours.

People posting like that are eventually caught, then you don't see any posts from them for awhile.

The standing rule is that you may only bump your OWN thread once every 4 hours. I think you can bump others as much as you like.

I agree that that's a bit much - I always felt I was going to get in trouble for bump a FS/FT thread more than once a day :p

<--- not a very active fs/ft'er

I don't understand how people can post so much. I would personally feel like a loser if I had more than 10 ppd here, but that is probably just me, and I don't participate in FS/T, so my opinion is probably biased.

I agree, it gets annoying to browse FS/T while all the threads are getting bumped.

I sometimes hit the 15 second limit just posting in ATOT. Definitely DO NOT set the limit to 5 mins! :|

5 minutes is too long, but I see nothing wrong with extending it beyond 15 seconds to maybe 1 minute.

I don't understand why 5 minutes to far too long a time period.
Please give me a hypothetical situation that would require more rapid replies?

IM is available for members that need to chat it up.

I only see a few people really abusing this and maybe a PM to ask them to back it down a bit might be more effective and easy and not alienate the rest of the members who abide by common sense .

And if no responce eitherway, then ask a mod to help out with a kind word or two via PM...

There are far more than "a few". Should I really keep track with screen shots?

My PM limit would be hit fast.
People really don't take suggestions about their posting habits very well. They get a bit of an attitude... just try it some time.

What would be fair for all is the 5 minute trigger. The people that aren't part of BUMPFEST 07 wouldn't notice it. The active members of BUMPFEST 07 would learn to live with it.

It would only come up for me once in a great while, but I can see it being inconvient in some situations when a thread gets lively! :p

If there were a way to increase the time-out between bumps in FS/FT only I'd have no problem with making it a half-hour to prevent abuse of the forum, but I just don't see it as being somthing thats needed anywhere else & AFAIK its all or nothing with Fusetalk.

Edit: I think the screenshot idea is a good one (although I believe you) .... nothing like evidence to back up your case.
