I have two friends at work with what looks to me to be the same problem.
One has a Compaq rig and the other an HP system. Both of their printers are printing "pinkish" printouts.

They've tried...
Uninstalling & Reinstalling software and printers.
Running the cleaning function for their printers.
Physically cleaning printheads and contacts.
Switching cartridges.
But they still end up with the same pinkish print problem.

What gives? Any suggestions?

When the printer prints, does it print pink on the whole page, or just the area where the normal output would be located? In other words, if I print a picture, is it just the picture which would be pink, or is it the whole page?

Also, what type of printers are your friends using?

Good luck in the meantime.

One is using a Compaq printer and the other is using a HP. I know that the one with the HP printer has changed color cartridges. But that didn't fix his problem.

The "pinkish" printing doesn't cover the entire sheet of paper, only where images would normally be printed. There are other colors that show up when printed. It's as though you were viewing the printed images through rose colored glasses.

That's odd; one of my friends sees the world through rose-colored glasses. Perhaps I should ask her about the problem.

Most monitors are calibrated to around 9000 Kelvin for internet surfing. When editing pictures for printing, one should probably go to somewhere 6000-7500 Kelvin. That will be more true to what the pictures will print. The best solution would be to run some colour calibration software.

How would calibrating the monitor have anything to do with how the printer prints?

2 different systems 2 different printers... I would look at the one thing they probably have in common.... the paper. Are the using inkjet or standard typing paper? Maybe they are using special paper for a funky printer.

Are their any types of viruses that would cause this problem? They may have downloaded some of the same things.
This one's a long shot, I guess.

Dunno if this is your problem, but if you adjust a picture on a monitor with standard colour calibrations, it will usually look too pink when printed. The reason for this is because monitors are calibrated too "blue" for pictures.

My printer is a POS(inkjet) since you mentioned print heads and cartridges I assume you have the same. When I'm printing normal text and I don't set the printer to print black&white instead of color, the edges have little colorful dots, and the shade of black is a little weird

My friend with the HP printer, printed a web page in GRAY SCALE.
The text came out nice and black. But the images and ads came out with the same pinkish color! He printed the page a second time to make sure he was using GRAY SCALE, and it printed the images in the pinkish color again.

Any thoughts?

I had my friend e-mail me a SCANNED picture of an example of the type of problem that he's having with his (slightly over 1 year old), HP printer.

Here's a picture of the page that he printed in "GRAYSCALE". What's up with this thing?

Call HP or Compaq tech support. There may be something wrong with the printers themselves. This may be a known problem.

He has contacted them. He tried most of the stuff they suggested, before he even contacting them.
Hasn't anyone had a printer do this?

Blain, have you aligned the print cartridges?

Goto start/settings/printers/
highlight the printer if it isn't already.
file/properties/services tab/align the print cartridges.

Try printing the test page also and see if the three colors are correct.

Might try posting this problem at the HP user forums also.
HP user forums

From the HP forum
"Your printer will only print purple.

If you have the box that the new color cartridge came in - do you see the date on the side of the box? What does it say?

Try the printer's Print Cartridge Cleaning routine from the printer's Software Toolbox, Maintenance menu. Make sure you try all three levels if necessary (all the way through to PRIME) to see if you can revive color printing.

If not, and if this is a new ink cartridge, then you need to take the ink cartridge to the store and request a replacement.

If these steps are not helping your printer print in color, you need to contact the telephone support line to ask a question about your color ink cartridge. You can find a list of worldwide phone lines by clicking on this link:

Thanks for posting your question to the forum."
