Help! Russ, PowerJoe anyone...

A friend tries to put a 128meg PC133 module in a mobo that support up to PC100 RAM. It go through the memory count just fine in POST, but during boot he get the BSOD and registry error? He claimed that memory is backward compatible, but I questioned the theory, and think his mem is what caused his BSOD.

Anyone knows if PC133 will do in a PC100 system.

Thanks

i really doubt it was the memory, since if you put it into a system that supports 100 only, it will simply run @100mhz instead of 133...........

dont even know what that bsod thing is......

Certainly. Perhaps he has a bad stick, or his mobo doesen't like that particular brand/quality of memory.

I've got a 64mb stick of KTi TinyBGA PC133 in my K6-3/450 system as we speak..

The memory should run. I'd certainly try and test it in another computer, as it could be bad.

I've got 3 memory sticks in my computer at the moment, 1 "PC66", 1 PC100 and 1 PC133 - all running happily together at 66 MHz.

PC133 is backward compatible, however some motherboards are picky about the RAM they like (early Athlon boards come to mind).
