PC specs: P3-1.26GHz, 512MB PC-133, Intel 815PE based MB, 250GB IDE for OS.

I'm going to use a Kingwin KF-1000-BK for my hot swappable HD rack. The hot swappable drive/s will only be used for non-RAID storage, not OS.

From what I've read I need a RAID controller card that supports the "hot swap" feature.

* Do "RAID" cards function correctly used in a non-RAID setup?
* Are there non-RAID SATA controller cards that also support the "hot swap" feature?
* Suggestions on cheapie (PCI based), cards that will work for me?

This is the cheapest PCI card I could find that supports hot swaping, tons of cheap PCI-E cards that would do the job much cheaper but sadly for hot swap support and the PCI interphase this appears to be the cheapest i could find on newegg Koutech IO-PSA420 32-bit PCI SATA II Controller Card RAID 0/1/0+1/5 JBOD - Retail you can use this for a single drive w/out issue.

edit: if your willing to give up the hot swap feature and are willing to shut off the PC to swap drives just about any sata pci card will work. or if your are willing to stick the kingwin enclosure in an external USB enclosure that would get you worse speeds but the hotswap ability for cheaper than the above card

I didn't see the Kountech card when searching. But I did find this Vantec card.
It's only got a single internal SATA, but I'll only have one Kingwin rack connected anyway and it's fairly cheap.

Thanks
