An Intel chipset based MB, with MatrixRAID cuts out a whole world of MB options.
I have searched, but found nothing that gets 0+1 from 2 HDs.

Does anyone know of a PCI based RAID controller card that offers similar RAID configuration of MatrixRAID (2 HDs to create a 0+1 array)?

Most RAID controllers will allow you to split disks, and make several arrays out of a number of disks. Most controllers should allow you to make a RAID 1 and a RAID 0 partition on 2 disks. Not sure if that's different from what Matrix is doing in any way but name.

most controller use the full drive when making raid. matrix lets you use whatever size you want. You can take the first 250gb out a 500gb drive and make a raid 0 and out of the same drive you can take the remaining 250gb and make a raid 1.

This will decrease your throughput since you now need to move hdd head to 2 seperate place on the same drive to read/write

this is common for scsi since the 90s.. nothing new
