What's a good memory reserve for an nForce2 MB running the onboard video option?

* Total system memory = 512mb
* System mainly used for office apps. & internet
* Video memory setting are... 8mb, 16mb, 32mb, 64mb, 128mb

Thanks :)

32 meg is more than enough to use and reserve, especially if you are not a gamer.

Additional memory would only aid if you had high end 3D graphics, and wanted higher resolutions using 3D.
Because the speed of the on-board graphics is still only around GF2 MX levels, you don't have high-end, and won't use higher res.

If you're not gaming... 16 is MORE than adequate... my Voodoo3 2000 PCI 16 MB does absolutely fine in Windows. You could probably even get by on 8 and not notice a difference... but since you have 512 MB of RAM, and you're just doing office apps and internet stuff, you have pleanty of RAM to spare, so go ahead with 16 or 32 if you want to make sure you've got enough.

Can you say what you're going to do with the comp? any of the options are good for certain things.

I believe the Nforce2 integrated graphics engine is actually Geforce4 MX, RobsTV. It seems pretty respectable, even compared to a highish-end ASUS V9280S GeForce4 Ti4200-8X (270/600Mhz).

FWIW, in this benchmark they enabled 128 MB of video memory. I find I almost never use more than 320 MB just surfing the web and doing office tasks with Linux, W2K or WinXP. I'd enable 64-128 MB, though I have a couple of systems with 8 MB video cards that do just fine at 2D tasks.

16mb-32mb for you're app.
Also you can supposedly only run 166MHz (PC333) FSB max while using the on-board graphics.
