___ Any other BH7 owners have their northbridge HS fall off? ___

Do the RMA. You'll want a paper trail in case this episode caused further damage you haven't discovered yet.

Blain,

Check out the "General Hardware" section........ looks like you aren't the only one with this problem🙂

Yup I just got f-k too I am gonna RMA I think also I am gonna hit them up for more (they can only say "no") because I am pretty sure my video card a 4200 that they also sell is screwed up. what a bad design. If we epoxy and it fails I think we are stuck with dead boards. I don't want to wait for an RMA. If they don't give me a vid card I will demand (again they can only say "no") they overnight me a new mobo. then when I am done testing and have confirmed that my card is screwed up I will give them another call and tell them I am sending them a dead card back with my poorly designed mobo or in different terms a well designed card killa 🙁

should have waited for springdale/canterwood mobos

If you epoxy a HS on it... it will never fall off.

man that core is tiny can you epoxy more than just the core??? like goop it up good as long as you make good contact with the core as well? or do you have to keep the epoxy off the rest of the NB?

think a crappy HS from the thermaltake heatspreadders that were intended for video card ram would suffice?

Mine did the same thing. I just went ahead and RMA'd the thing. Put a bad taste in my mouth for Abit I tell ya. Came clean out of the hole in the motherboard like it was never soldered in the first place.

Glad you didn't lose any hardware. I had my Zalman heatsink finally fall off the NB of my KT7a-raid, ending the mb's 2 1/2 year life. 🙁 The plastic pins apparently had worn down to where there wasn't much holding the heatsink to the board anymore.

Did kill a Geforce4 MX440 when the northbridge fell off. Went and blew something on the vid card, there was a nice crisp peice on the board. Kinda sucked since the vid card was a week out of warranty. Oh well it needed to go anyway.

That happens on IC7/IS7s with the new revision northbridge heatsinks. Looks like it's because it's only having 2 hooks instead of 4. Weird thing is... it's always the top right going first. 😕

Yup mine was a top right and i just bought a new (refurb GF4) and some AS epoxy total $95 🙁

Did I say no one at ABIT wanted to talk to me? i spent two hours being transferred and waiting for managers like Winiford the mangager at the RMA department. Not buying any more Abit crap looking at the construction of the clip I laughed. What dumbsh!t thought that up having proprietary U clamps?

have I mentioned I am pissed? i am going to epoxy a HS on right now I have mine on w/ thermal tape now but it is not wanting to stick on that great...

it's kinda ironic that this happened to Blain and I at almost the same time.

The Asus P4C800 looks like it uses the same mounting method, but has four "U's" instead of two.
The AOpen AX4C is the same, but with just two "U's".
The Albatron PX865PE PRO... same with two "U's".
The MSI 875P Neo uses two "U's" for fastening.
The Epox EP-4PCA3+ uses four of the "U's" for fastening.

The Gigabyte GA-8PENXP has the holes in the MB for the "U's", but they use through the MB pins to fasten the NB HS!
