__ Metabyte Banshee Card __ Driver Problem or OTHER? __ HELP!

Blain

Lifer
I'm throwing together a system for a friend of mine, with parts I have laying around here. I'm using a Metabyte Wicked3D Banshee card for the video, and a Soyo SY-6VCA[/b] (VIA APOLLO PRO 133A), for the MB, with Windows 98.

HERE'S MY PROBLEM...
Any resolution ABOVE 640x480, and I'm limited to ONLY 256 colors. I can choose as high a resolution as the video card will support. But I can only run 16bit color at 640x480.
I've downloaded the latest drivers for the Banshee card, and loaded the Soyo 4-in-1 drivers from the Soyo set-up disk.
THERE MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE...
When I got the card it had a part re-soldered on the board. The seller said that it was a capacitor. But it seems to me to be some type of crystal.

Could this component be keeping me from higher colors above 640x480? Or does it sound like more of a driver problem?

BTW, I bought this card from a member here back at the beginning of December 2000, for like $15.
So, after this long I wouldn't have the nerve to ask for anything more from him 😀

Wow, I got it up to 16bit @ 800x600!
I touched up the solder joins on the crystal. They looked a little shabby.

Thanks 😛
