I may get it right eventually. I first posted as new topic "Building 2nd Rig". This is where I think it should be.
My first post to this forum; but I've been reading the posts here for about 3 weeks. Many of my questions have already been answered, but I do have 4 more that I need help with. The answers might help me get around some of the horrible O/S install problems I've read about. I'm about ready to install the O/S and try to format and partition the HDD's. Here's what I've got.
A7N8X-DX 2.0 (1003)
XP2800+ with Vantec Aeroflow C7040 with TMD fan (really silent)
Enermax EG465P-VE(FC) about 400+ watts.
2x512Mb OCZ EL DDR PC-2700 Optimized Dual Chan. in slots 1 & 3
2x 80Gb Seagate SATA HDD's / Sata enabled and Raid 1 created (no partitions or formatting yet)
Sony DRU-500AX
the obligatory floppy drive.
Lian Li 6070 case + 3 fans
O/S = Win XP Pro.
Everything posts okay; no problems so far. CPU and memory show up as they should, and all drives are reported correctly. I have been running Memtest 3.0 for the past 4 hours and no errors reported so far.
Now for the questions:
#1. Should I - could I ; upgrade the Silicon SATA Controller Sii3112 driver BEFORE installing the O/S ?
#2. Should I - could I ; upgrade BIOS to ver1005 BEFORE installing O/S; or is it easier after the O/s and ASUS Update are installed ?
#3. Memory in BIOS Advanced Chipset features show as (from top down) 7-3-3-2T. Specs for this memory at the OCZ site show: CL2-2-2-5-1T. How do I get mine to look like spec. and/or does it really matter?
#4. Has anyone out there used either the Seagate or Windows programs for formatting and partitioning ? In particular, the Windows setup for partitioning the Raid array.
I could bore you with more of the Bios Advanced Chipset screen info; but not for now. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.
