I have only been able to find these for sale, and I'm not even sure if they are real 99min CDR's or just rated to overburn to 99min. Pretty good buy for 50 99min CDR's if they are legit. Anyone have any other sources for 99min CDR's? I will primarily be using them for audio on a Lite-On 24X burner and quality very important to me. Up till now, I have pretty much only used TDK Certified + for all my audio burns, but I have a ton of 90min plus Trance mixes that I hate to break up into smaller parts. Thanks in advance....:)

Got 99min CD-Rs from CompUSA few weeks ago -CompUSA brand ;)
I think it was clearance or sale 16pcs for $9.95.
Guy said, that no one buys them, so they are on sale.
Quality is good, but my Pioneer DVD can't read them 100%, all other drives are ok.

Think about it... for the money you could buy 2 or 3 50-packs of 700MB CD-R's and hold way more data (and on discs that can be read by anything).

Insane3D, I got those CDs. The 99Min CD are pretty good (silver on silver). The 90Min ones are a bit flaky. My ratio on 90Min (ones labled SKY) is 2 of 3. I mainly use them for creating VCD movies. I hate having 2 CDs for one movie. The longest one I tried so far is 102 Min on a 99min CD. I have not tried anything over.

This site has some info on drives they've tested with the 99 min blanks and at what speeds they burned successfully at.

That might be true, but if you look at my original post, I said these would be used for audio burns only. I already have a ton of 80min CDR's that I use for everything else. I have several mix sets that are in excess of 90min and I don't want to break them up if possible. :)

Thanks for the info, sounds like they are OK. Have you burned any audio on them? Do they work ok in tradiontal CD players like home or auto CD players? I really plan on using these in my car where I have a high end Kenwood CD player that reads CD Text and works well. I was looking at reseller ratings and that place, yesbuy, doesn't have too good of a rating, did you get yours there? How were they?

Thanks for the link. It looks like the Lite-On 24X burns them fine at all speeds! :)

I bought that exact spindle from Yesbuy. I first used Feurio to test it out, and they are in fact 99min CDRs. I bought them so I can fit entire 90min mixtapes on single CDs (the 90min CDRs would've been sufficient, but my tape deck plays a little too slowly, making the entire thing about 95mins). I'm using a Lite-On LTR-16102B, and I believe the Lite-On 24X drive can burn 99min CDRs as well, so you're set. If it's of any importance, these 99min CDRs from YB are rated at 16X, so I would suggest only burning at that speed.

I'm sorry I forgot to answer your question about having to overburn. AFAIK, All >80min CDRs require a program that is capable of overburning. This is because the program will identify the discs as 80min CDRs as they have a false ATIP (I forget the reason why, possibly compatibility). So if you don't have a program that can overburn, you will need Nero or Feurio (these programs work great with these CDRs). This means, unfortunately, programs such as Easy CD Creator will not be able to burn to CDRs past 80min. Good luck :)

Yeah, I have the latest version of Nero that came with my Lite-On, so I'm cool...thanks. I can't stand EZCD Creator....It's like the AOL of CD Burning programs...soooooooo easy to use.Blecchhh..:( ;) Yeah, my understanding is that the standard only allows for 79:59 of space of the CD and the 90 and 99 minute CDRW's just have extra Lead In and Lead Out space for overburning....

Insane3D, no i have not used it for audio (no real need at the moment). THG did an article on it. I think its titled "The outer limits". They claim to be able to play it on commercial audio players. My VCD's play on my JVC DVD commercial player, however my toshiba 8X DVD will not read them.

And yes I bought them at Yesbuy.net. Look at the small print - no refund-customer testing only.

BTW, the 90Min CD's actually goes to 99min, however 12X seems to be the most stable burn for this media. At 16X I get problems with my JVC DVD. The 99min CD's are ok to burn at 16x. I use LG-8160B and Nero 5551.

These CD's use a different dye where the molecules are smaller. Thus making the pitch (distance between tracks) smaller effectively increasing the capacity. The downside is that is it out of specs and not really supported. To find out if it works or not is by trial and error.

CompUSA SKU for 16-pack of 99-min CDRs is 282323. I suppose I could scan my box if it is really necessary.

I am only able to get these discs to burn in my Plextor 1210S. My Ricoh MP9120A doesn't like them (for recording), nor do any of the older (4x or slower) recorders I have access to.
