Please give up a break down on the parts cost and the labor cost. The price seems too high. Even throwing in the wheel bearing its too high. Front disk brakes take about half an hour per side for an experienced mechanic. The rear brakes about an hour per side, that a 3 hours of labor plus the time for the wheel bearing.

You're typically not billed on how long it takes the mechanic to do the work, you're billed based on the time the job is rated for, unless I'm mistaken. IE - If the shop rate for front brakes is one hour, and it takes them 15 minutes, you still pay one hour.

It does seem a bit high, but Canadian prices are always going to be skewed.

See this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4561697-What-s-you-VW-dealers-labor-rate

Dealer labor rates were varying between $65/hr and $140/hr from what I skimmed. And these are OLD rates.

A 4-wheel brake job is likely 3 hours, or more, with at least $300 in parts.

The hub is probably $100 in parts and an hour or two in labor.

So, $990-300-100 = $590 in labor

$590/4 = $148/hr

Not including dealer markup on parts, taxes, etc. It's not crazy.

Just wanted to say that labour at the shop I got the quote in the OP from is $85/hr. The $990 also includes 13% sales tax.
