That's right. I can't believe it. What are kids learning in school these days, when they can't read simple stuff like this...

<<
$_='while(read+STDIN,$_,2048){$a=29;$c=142;if((@a=unx"C*",$_)
[20]&48){$h=5;$_=unxb24,join"",@b=map{xB8,unxb8,chr($_^$a[--$h+84])}
@ARGV;s/...$/1$&/;$d=unxV,xb25,$_;$b=73;$e=256|(ord$b[4])<<9|ord$b[3];
$d=$d>>8^($f=($t=255)&($d>>12^$d>>4^$d^$d/8))<<17,$e=$e>>8^($t&
($g=($q=$e>>14&7^$e)^$q*8^$q<<6))<<9,$_=(map{$_%16or$t^=$c^=
($m=(11,10,116,100,11,122,20,100)[$_/16%8])&110;$t^=(72,@z=(64,72,$a^
=12*($_%16-2?0:$m&17)),$b^=$_%64?12:0,@z)[$_%8]}(16..271))[$_]^
(($h>>=8)+=$f+(~$g&$t))for@a[128..$#a]}print+x"C*",@a}';s/x/pack+/g;eval
>>

Programmers Against Perl (PAP) spokesperson, Keith Willingham said, "There's no better way to scare students away from computers than exposing them to Perl. Even experienced programmers are frightened and confused by it. The Perl lobby is just getting too powerful, and they need to be stopped."

Funny, you don't look gibberish. ;)

Judging by a lot of the writing I see on AT, the bigger problem is that a large percentage of HS seniors, can't read or write English, either. :Q

At my school, the CS department starts with Java, then has one semester of C, and then the rest is C++. But this semester, we did some stuff with Perl. I liked working with it. It was something that I could actually do. Granted, all we were doing was a simple CGI script that read data from a file (that we generated in our previous programming assignment in C) and printed it.

I can only assume that nobody would code it like that and if they can what a waste of time.

I don't think most high school graduates can program. My high school only taught two languages: QBasic and Fortran77. After I graduated they picked up C++ and dropped the other two. I've managed to pick up 5 more since I took those and I still want to learn more. I don't think high schools do enough to prepare students for jobs like that.

OMG. What a shame! All kids in HS should be required to learn pearl before they graduate, reguardless of their major.:D

Is it even legal to post that? It's code for DVD decryption. I really dont know why people insist on writing obfuscated code like that. It really doesn't serve a purpose. Heh, maybe I'm just not cool enough....

Anyway... PERL IS GOD!

Well it's not a bad idea if writing unmaintainable code gives them a better chance to keep their jobs. :)

I've seen people like that. Apparently writing crappy code that they can barely read is a sign that they are 1337 and all that.

Yeah, people who write crap like that think they are l33t. (They're not.) In fact, crap like that almost guarantees you're a deviant. (Probably a friend-less loner who thinks "If people can't accept my nonsensical Perl, then I don't need 'em." Freaks.)

really it's more of a hobby than anything. They actually have perl obfuscation contests to see who can write the least decipherable code.

Give me fortran or give me death. Whatever you do, don't give me PERL.
