Hi guys,

Been on anandtech for a while now, but this is my first hot deal posting:

Cafe Ophelia in Fremont & Milpitas has 99 cent boba milk tea - everyday, take out only. Not sure if it's good at other locations. If you drink this stuff, you know this is a great deal.

Beats shelling out almost $3 bucks at Tapioca Express or Q-Cup I think :), especially since these things are addicting after a while, and the $ spent adds up. Taste probably doesn't live up to TEX's, but it's decent.

Same deal with the one in San Jose/Cupertino/Santa Clara area. IMO not anywhere as good as Q Cup or Tap X but still it's a great deal.

just like coffee, smoothies, and othe drinks which must be prepared, it's often worthwhile to shell out a bit more for quality stuff. i've had horrible experiences with cheap boba drinks.

just as someone mentioned previously, if not prepared well, the boba can be horrific.

Hey in defense of people who use that expression.

You do have an imagination right?

You can pick at a million expressions that are not literal.

Lastly, nothing beats plain old green tea.

there is a restaurant in orange called pho hao on the corner or chapman and main. they have $1.50 thai teas that are excellent. in addition, they have very good pho. this restaurant is also very clean, unlike most pho restaurants in little saigon. watch out, this place gets very busy at lunch time but around 3 pm it is practically dead.

How are these drinks if you request no Boba? I like the Taro Milk Tea without the boba. Has anyone tried it here?

I know what you mean. I tried to make it twice. Some came out with center uncooked, some of them turn into blob. Someone told me that the stores cook them with pressure cooker. I tried rice cooker once, that doesn't work very well.. :( Maybe I should try those 5 lb free-dried variety at Ranch 99, and see if that turns out. Supposedly only take 10 mins to cook.... :)

The Lollicup in Rowland between Sam Woo BBQ and Sam Woo Dim Sum has buy one get one free, but not if you have any special requests like no boba. Don't ask me why though, I think that policy is retarded.

its called 99 ranch but the stor sign has a big "Ranch" with the number 99 under it- so maybe that's why some people get the impression that its "ranch 99"... to make bubble tea its hard to get the tapioca prepared right- almost all cafe's have different textures- some better, some worse, and some subjective...
