In win 98SE it seems to take WAY to long to boot up, about 2-3 minutes, and sometimes it seems like the system is trying to catch up*pauses in games, opening progs/folders* and it has only recently started doing this *after i installed it on new system*, ive heard that 98SE can start messing up if you have too much RAM, 512 is supposed to be about max i think and ppl have said they have experienced problems at as low as 340MB of RAM. I have 512 MB...SO, basically, would win 2k pro be better than 98SE?

AMD XP 1800+
ASUS a7v266-e
512MB mushkin RAM
GF4 TI4400 128MB

does it boot slow even right after u install win98? i'm wondering if it is a driver issue? i have had 512mc ram in a windows98 machine before, and i did not notice and hooribly slow boot times. i mean, if u think win98 is slow... win2000 would not be much better.

Make sure you have DMA enabled for your hard drive. Even better get Intel Application Accelerator from Intel's website. I had a similar problem in Win2k actually and Intel Application Accelerator fixed it.
