98SE IDE Drivers

I am upgrading my Motherboard and want to keep my current Hard Drive set-up , I've been given some good advice on the Motherboards Forum and one of the hints was to (Quote)"install the basic Microsoft IDE Drivers before moving the HD to the new Machine"(Unquote). Can anyone explain to me how I do that, I thought the Drivers would already be on my HD (WIN 98SE). Thanks for any advice that you can give🙂
 
NO, you shouldn't have to reformat. Your best bet would be to delete the registry key that includes the information about all your hardware before taking the old mobo out. Then replace the mobo, and when booting up for the first time, it will redetect all your hardware from scratch and you should be fine. Unfortunately the name of the registry key escapes me right now, i'm sure someone else will know it off the top of their head.
 
Thanks , I have the Registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum), so I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again.
