I'm running 98SE w/256MB of memory and am unable to run scan disk on an external 200GB USB 2.0 Hdd because of lack of memory resources. Is it because my older system is unable to deal with such a large hdd? Can anything be done to remedy the situation and allow me to scan disk it? I don't wish to purchase additional SDRAM memory at this point in time.

Thanks,
Tom

Isn't 256MB of memory sufficient to run scan disk on an external USB harddrive?

Hi, Don't have a drive that large, but you shouldn't need a lot of ram to run Scandisk. You do need about 20% head room on the drive. Jim

It's a brand new unused harddrive, just prepping it for use. I downloaded a scan disk/defrag utility that hopefully will work better than Win98's.

This 98SE puter will become an XP machine in a few weeks, hopefully, so I am gonna add more memory.
