Argentine OCer nacho_arroyo managed to hit 7GHz using a X58A-UD9 and a retail Core i7 980X (using Liquid Nitrogen for cooling).

Edit:

Current 980X record holder is rsannino with 7078.7 mhz

from the picture: "6 cores 6 threads". does disabling SMT help reach higher speeds?

What I meant was that it's still not the world frequency record. However, it is probably the world performance record if it's bench stable.

Its going to crash and not be stable. I can boot up with 4Ghz , doesnt mean I can use that.

I think up to 5Ghz is good OC.. wow your voltage is 1.9v my goodness
I thought I was high with that.. gg agc and gl,

Isn't disabling HT cheating? I mean he could also disable some of the cores and get even higher speeds.

Nice to see 7GHz, but that is about all it is good for right now.

Almost 2V for a processor is just crazy anymore. Would love to see how long it lasted and if it survived, just how well it runs without the LN2.

if he was going after WR, he should of diabled all but 1 core.. and figured out which one would go the highest...

Thats how the guys do it.

They test EACH DAYAM CORE!! lol... and which ever handles the best, they use that 1 core in a hexcore.

They will never beat the Celerons with the cpu-z world record. They will do some damage in superpi maybe get a better 3dmark 01, score and will probably crap all over the vantage record

do people still trust cpu-z validations? I won't I can smash the frequency WR with a cpu-z validation on nothing but air
