A good 9800Pro is a better choice. It will overclock past XT speeds with lower cost.

Then (Sapphire) would be my choice ;)

Edit: not sapphire but Gygabyte or hercules.

So, is there anything WRONG with the XT, or are you guys just saying for the money get the 9800Pro? Money isnt a big thing for me on this upgrade

The XT is just an overclocked 9800Pro. It's all about money.

Thats what I thought, I'd rather have the OC already done so I dont have to mess with it.

What I'm wondering about is the brands, any better or worse?

As you said before Gygabite seems to come at a little higher clockspeed and it's a nice brand so it should be a very good choice.

I myself have a Hercules XT on the way. Check this out.. It seems that most all the XT cards with the exception of the Asus card are manufactured by Sapphire so find one with the bundle ya like.

well my 9700pro died the other day so i ordered the gigabyte from newegg overnight. i'll report back tommorow on the clockspeeds. im pretty sure that they are wrong but i figure the gigabyte has the best package anyway and if i really don't think the card is worth the cash i can easly return it to newegg as they advertised the wrong clockspeeds. :)

it's all about preference, cooling, heatsinks, warranty, etc. get ati if you want 3 year warranty, otherwise all the other brands are just as good

TheSnowman - did you fried your previous card ? I fried my card the first time I tried to overclock it,
I was testing to see how far I can overclock it , then fell asleep , next morning I realized I forgot to set it back to default but it was to late my 9800 pro was dead R.I.P. ,
I told the guy at the computer store what happened , fortunately he was nice and still let me exchanged the card .
hope you got an exchange too and didn't have to buy a new card

BE CAREFUL about DVI output quality.. if you want the best dvi output quality, I'd recommend sticking with an original ATI branded 9800xt.
