Okay, here is what I am wondering......Although Im new to the boards and this is my first post, So...Hi everyone.......

Okay, I know about the AGP slot, the older type
which is l___l l_______l and the newer type which is l___l l___l l___l.

I read a post in here earlier that was explaining the difference from these two slots and connectors. I know 2x/4x cards wont work in an 8x slot which is the newer slot. But the 9800pro looks like this l___l l___l l___l and the 9800xt looks like this l___l l_______l.

Isnt both of these cards 8x. And if so...how come they have the different connectors?
I just purchased the NF7-S board..and wanting an 8x card, not that it is necessary, but still want the option. Im not sure if anyone has noticed this or not, probably so. But I dont have a clue of why they look different. Anyone know why they are different? thanx

Oh, and I have seen how many people shorten or change the url's they post, How do I do that to keep them from being so long? thanx

I'd have to look up the standards a bit more carefully, but here's how I understand AGP cards and slots:

There are two (incompatible) *voltage* standards, 3.3V and 1.8V. The first AGP slots (1X, and some 2X) were 3.3V slots. All 4X/8X slots (and some 2X, and maybe even some 1X) are 1.8V.

All 8X slots can also do 4X, so a 2x/4x card *will* work in an 8X slot as long as the voltage matches. But an older 3.3V card will not fit in a 1.8V slot.

Both those cards should be 4X/8X 1.8V AGP. My guess is that the 9800Pro is built on a slightly older PCB, which was originally designed for 2X/4X and then adapted to 8X (which is why it has the three-gap design; it'll fit into a 2X AGP slot that way). The 9800XT was built solely as an 8X/4X card, and so it *should* have the newest design. I never paid much attention -- as long as they fit in your motherboard without having to break out a hacksaw, you should be all set. If you have a 4X/8X capable motherboard, you can use any 4X/8X card, regardless of what the pin arrangement looks like. If you look at your motherboard, you'll see that there's not actually a notch for the middle "tooth" of the 9800Pro. :)

To get shorter URLs: if you go into the actual "reply" screen, you can use the button for hyperlinks, or you can use the following pseudo-HTML code:

<left square bracket> L=<text of link> <right square bracket> REAL URL GOES HERE <left square bracket> /L <right square bracket>
