Hi, I can get a 9700pro for $90 shipped and a 9800se for $100 shipped. The 9800 is a 256bit version and the pipes unlock. The 9700pro is just the bare card and might be a bit older than the 9800. Which do you recommend. I am going to buy one of them tonight probably, unless you can recommend a better card for $100 shipped.

How do you know it's going to softmod for sure? Someone told you?

I'd go for a 9700pro and be sure I'm getting good performance from it.

If you're absolutely sure the 9800se will softmod, then take your pick as they'd both be good.

That's no guarantee. I have a 9800SE with the red PCB and L shaped memory. I softmodded it and got artifacts like a bitch. You might be wasting your money. You just don't know what you're getting with the SE's. You don't know if it has all good pipelines that were disabled or whether you got defective pipelines that were disabled.

Just for reference, I have a Powercolor 9800SE.

Well, the guy said it softmods fine. It is a powercolor 9800se. i think I am just going to go with the 9700 though. Based on what I read, I think I am going to go with the 9700 though. Thanks for the help.

9700Pro = 9800 non-pro. It's cheaper and it's a sure bet. I'd go for it and overclock it to 9800Pro speeds.
