9800se--->pro

whats the best 9800se that has good ram and is most likely to be successfully softmodded?

or maybe is there anywhere i can back order say a 9700 or 9500? (9500 would be softmodded aswell) im looking for and 8 pipe ati card thats within budget ($200) and as you can see im willing to risk a softmod.

Well $200 can already net you a full 9800 Pro, so don't bother about the rest of the cards you have mentioned.

yes i was planning on softmodding the 9800se to get the full 8 pipes. where would i find a $200 (US) 9800pro? considering i live overseas do places like newegg ship things internationally?

thanks Schadenfroh but ive heard the 128mb 9800pros crippled. would i find a 256mb one around this price range?

i found this does this built by ATI 9800pro have good memory? and again do newegg ship overseas? (converted into australian dollars its $120 cheaper than any ive seen in Aust so it seems and excellent buy.)

Don't know about overseas shipping but ATI's 9800 pro 128mb is probably around the $225 area, and the ones made by others are around $200, but don't know the quality of these, as I've only bought ATI's.

To answer your original question, the Powercolor SE has the best results for softmodding. Wseyller....that is the point of softmodding.....because it unlocks the 4 pipelines that are originally built onto the card.

Sylvanas you missed the point of the sapphire fiasco...it wasn't that they only had 128mb memory vs 256 memory, but that they had 128-BIT memory compared to the standard 256-bit on 9800pros. And in big letters on that page it says it's the 256-bit version...but if somehow you get screwed and it's a 128-bit, sapphire will replace it if you say you were confused. Either way you are a lot better off with a pro then trying to softmod an SE, with the pro's being so cheap these days.

yeh i only caught a bit of the sapphire fiasco. so is the built by ati 9800pro (the one i found here) a good buy? ill try and have a look around at some reveiws but i dont want to buy one, then find out it has crappy ram that isnt good for overclocking. oh and im also planning on putting a giant 3 on for what its worth.

Newegg won't ship internationally.
Your best SE softmodding bet is the Powercolor 9800 SE C3 model, to be exact. That is the one that runs at a stock 380mhz/340mhz setting, that of the 9800 pro. You'll get 2.8ns hynix/samsung ram on the board, and the GPU will be an R350, perhaps a 360.

I couldn't find any site that would ship it internationally :\
You may just want to buy a 9800 pro and forget the softmod.

yes im thinking its too risky to softmod and might as well buy the pro. damn, so does anyone else know any good internet firms that ship internationally?

NCIX is best online dealer in Canada, not sure if they ship internationaly tho.

Link to 9800 pro, i guess from the site you can tell wether or not they ship to AUS or you can just call them

(price is in canadian funds)

are you looking to mod it into a 9800XT? if not there is very little (1-2fps) differance between the 128 and the 256mb models

No im not going to flash it to XT. but i thought the 256mb versions would have better performance when using AA and AF am i right?

256 is a marketing gimmick basicly. People see bigger numbers and automaticly think better proformance (you did 🙂 ) The only advantage it has is that it proforms about 2-3 fps better (not noticable) and it can be easly modded into a 9800XT.

ah yes from those benchmarks theres basically no difference, thanks alot you saved me some extra $$$ so do ncix ship internationally? i couldnt find any reference on their site.

neither could I thats why i recommend you phone them. I am sure there has to be some sites that ship outside coninental NA. I just know that ncix and newegg are the big ones.
