I want to buy a low priced video card...
9800SE is about my price or should I get 9600?
What specs does 9800SE got what clock speed and how many pipes...why so much cheaper than 9800normal? 😕

Radeon 9800SE

Core Speed: 325 MHZ
256-bit memory interface
Memory speed: 500Mhz
4 pipelines
128MB DDR
AGP 8x

The Memory speed Depends on the manufacture some put faster ram some put slower.
😉

It's cheaper than the usual 9800 because it has half the pipelines. There are also two version of the 9800se. One version is clocked at 380/340 and has a 256 bit bus. The other version is clocked 325/250 and has a 128 bit bus. Either version will be faster than a 9600np.

There are actually 3 versions of the 9800SE ? according to ocfaq and more than that according to a little web searching?

The typical prices I?ve seen ?.

9800SE ? 380/340?. ? ? ? ? ? ?256bit bus? $220 (?) ? (= 9600pro?s performance)
9800SE ? ? 325/270 and 380/300 ? 128bit bus ? ~ $165 - 177 ? (much slower than 9600pro)
9800SE ? ? 325/250 ? ? ? ? ? ?128bit bus ? ~ $145 ? TSOP memory
PowerColor 9600pro ?400/300 ? ?? ? ? ? ? ?.$145

If you look at one of digilifes latest articles they tested both a 256bit and a 128bit 9800SE. The 128bit 9800SE was clocked 325/270. That 128bit 9800SE was slower than a 5600 in almost all the benchmarks on that page. I would peg a 9600 faster than a 5600, so this would definitely put the 128bit model (325/270) slower than a 9600.

I would really avoid 9800SE?s unless you are thinking of softmoding.

Edit: Updated with new info.

yeah don't get the 9800 se if you can find the 9800 non pro then get it right away because it's 30% faster than 9800 se and is usually around $20-30 more than the 9800se model .The original 9800 pro is only about 5- 10% faster than a 9800 non pro

ati's 9800 pro price just drop by over $100 canadian over at ati' site you can get it for $299 US or if you look around I'm pretty sure you can find a 9800 pro for much less

for your budget try looking for a 9500 pro it might be hard to find but it's around the same price as 9800se and 9600 but the 9500 pro is faster than both cards because it has 8 pipelines while the others has only 4, that makes a big difference when you enable aa and af with high resolutions.

the 9800se owns!!!!

i got an hercules aiw 9800 se and i get >5000 3dmarks03 points ,softmodded (3680 std drivers), with the setup below!

just make sure u get a 256bit version!!

I was looking at scores for the9800 se 128 bit with 4 pipelines, that's why your 256bit card makes such a difference including your softmod similar to the saphire 9500 non pro L shape mem with 256 bit using softmod or hard mod to 9700 with scores exactly the same as 9700

how much did you overclock to get those high scores. You got a good deal then if you can softmod it close to pro speeds!

neither the cpu nor the gfxcard is oc.... dont feel a need to...yet 😀

apparently some ppl get a copy with poor pipes and getting artifacts, but not me, so maybe i am just lucky...

the pic quality is great, and so is the aiw function (wasnt the main reason i got it tho.. hehe)

btw i got it much cheaper than the original price 🙂
