I have a 9700Pro, but I can probably sell it to a friend. If I do would a 9800Pro be a large enough jump for it to be worth the extra cash for the new card? Or should I keep my 9700Pro and forget about 9800Pro for now? I've seen the benchmarks, and it doesn't seem a huge amount better.

yeah the performance jump isnt worth the price jump from a 9700pro to a 9800pro. keep the 9700pro and squeeze what you can out of it by OCing and you can get close to 9800pro speeds...

It's not much of a difference in performance. Unless you can get a really good price for your 9700 pro I wouldn't bother.

Well for me it was worth it......... I picked up almost 4000 pts in 3Dmark2001. I got a good price for my 9700pro and only spent $50 to upgrade. I did luck out and got a good oc'ing 9800pro, plus my 9700pro was a Sapphire brand which I'll never own again. :disgust:

The whole "you can oc a 9700 to close to 9800 speeds" just doesn't wash,........ it completely discounts the fact that you can also oc the 9800.

Only you can decide if it's worth it, plus the fact that 9700prices are dropping fast.

Sell the 9700 Pro and use a temporary card until the 9800TX/9900 arrives.

I went from a 9700 PRO to a 9800 PRO 2 weeks ago and it was worth it to me. Yes their is a perfomance boost and I did notice it, beside the smart shader/ smooth vison went for m2.0 to 2.1 and the game look great. I am playing games 1600 X 1200 4x AA 16X AF at 60 FPS. I also was able to help out a friend who now is enjoying my old 9700 PRO.
