9800pro to xt

I just got an ATI 9800pro 256mb and it does have the 360R core but it has 16x16 hynix ram, can I still flash this and what bios will work if so?

well, i looked it over and it said to use the standard bios so I used the Ati 9800xt for the hynix 2.5. Everything seems to run fine except that it's showing that I have a secondary 9800xt. Anyone know why this is??

I didn't even know it was possible to flash a 9800 pro to XT potential, how do you do it. I have a ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb, straight from ATI.

just read th article that apoppin posted, i believe there is a modded bios for your card. the flashing is really easy, just follow the directions closely.

I know this is a dumb question but how do you know what kind of core you have, is there something in the video properties that will tell me that or is it just in the model of card I bought.

Please read the guide.

😛

the only way to be certain is to remove the HS and look at the core - it will have either r350 or r360 marked on it . . . the article gives other clues and ATI tool may also tell you.

Also, there is much LESS reason to flash a 9800p-128MB version to XT . . . the 9800pro - 256/256MB IS a 9800XT (held back by it's BIOS and generally crappy HS) with thermal diode and all. 😉

Kind of along the same lines as what Apoppin stated, but you're going to be better off just OC'ing your card than flashing the BIOS. With the 128MB card, you won't be able to flash to a true XT anyway. If you have the R360 Core, your control panel will read it as a 9800 XT. If you have the R350 core, it will likely read as a Pro. Though as mentioned, the only true way is to remove the HSF and look for yourself. If I were you, I'd just install Radlinker and bump up your core/memory speeds in small increments, while testing for artifacts. You may be able to get up to XT speeds with no problems.

is there a big performance gain after you flash a 9800 pro to XT

please let me know

~10% for a 256/256MB Radeon Pro > XT

much LESS for a 128MB Radeon Pro > "xt"

😉

it has been almost continually "on sale" in Hot Deals since i bought mine nearly 4 months ago . . . first 'off and on' at NewEgg then at MicroCenter . . . the stock is probably depleted by now.
