9800pro questions

I play ET mainly was wondering what fps u all get with this card

i get 90 a lot inside low texture areas on 1024*768 and out side i vary from as low as 40 up to 90

got a score of 5500 in 3dmark

when i turn my 3d seatings up a notch (high quality) in the ati gui i get what i can best describe as video lag at points in my play. my FPS dose not drop but i get lag :| happens in call of Duty single player too

is this normal?

preforms better than my 5200fx card at higher seatings but was expecting a bit more from what i read

also when i remove my drivers to up date or try different 1s windows auto installs drivers on startup. how can i stop this?

That might be your problem. Push cancel when windows asks you to install the drivers.

this is bugging me

i have win xp pro and i like to think i know a lot about PCs but this is still occurring with format


i formated and reinstalled with a old vid card to see what would happen and when i popped in the 9800 it auto installed


this has me stumped

mmm, strange.... try uninstalling them and running driver cleaner and see if that helps.

First of all that's good to hear that we've got another ET Player. I'm an ET player too. Here's our team's site (pst, we're recruiting).

Second, I have the same card and os as you. In the one of the releases It's mentioned that the drivers cause performance issues in ET. I have the Cat 4.2 installed and ET is playing good. I don't notice any problems with this driver version. I uninstalled the previous version, rebooted, windows installed drivers for the 9800 pro, I then installed the Cat 4.2 drivers, rebooted. No problems here. The driver settings are setup for the default settings. ET has all setting max'd at 1280x1024. 90fps and sometimes drop to 80 and backup.

In summary, Make sure your OS is patched and try the 4.2 drivers. I don't like drive cleaner. It removed my device category in Device Manager and caused all kinds of problems.

If you use cab cleaner (from driver cleaner) and clean the driver.cab and sp1.cab, and unplug your internet connection during the card installation, it won't auto install anymore. You only have to clean the cab files once.

sep i play on the S.S. servers and also I'm in their league of 6 teams

maybe you guys could get in on the spring or summer league lots of fun and lots of really good players!

matches are 6 on 6
teams are 8-10 players

o and i drop down to 40 fps on some maps (radar is 1, what do you get for fps on radar when you set it to their generic high rez setting?). you ever get that or is my card sub par? I do score a constant 5500 in 3d mark 2003 though

the card is made by sapphire
my PC is a
2.0gig 410mhz bus
a7n8x
512mb
3200 xms memory


no slouch by any means

was expecting a bit more out of the card also the card crashes when i play call of duty. I need to try some different setting but did not have time today. crashed 2x with settings maxed and 1280*768 rez. Drooped me to desk top and ATI thing came up asking if it was ok for it to send an email on my behalf?

should i RMA it? or wait it out?

also noticed writing on the card. This was on the back safety lock gismo. wonder if this card was pulled off the line for some reason


maybe I'm just being hyper sensitive or maybe I'm right and thats why i came here
