I pulled all my fans except the CPU n GPU and it still has a high whirring noise. i never thot it was the video because, well, i dono. I stopped the 9800's fan with my fan and BAM. silence. well, near silence.

the 9800pro is the only thing keeping my system from near silence. =/
i dont wanna spedn money to fix it. not worth it.

Personally, I never noticed any audible difference between my Sapphire stock cooling and the Zalman VF70-0 Cu.

Perhaps the stock fan is dieing.

there are a lot of threads on it. search for arctic cooling.
good luck

Got the same one - quite nice, and very quiet. They've got more specialized versions, but they're longer. I had tried the the ATI Silencer 1 Rev 2, which is 21.5cm long. The VGA Silencer rev3 is only 18.5cm. The ATI Silencer 1 didn't fit in my Antec SLK3700AMB case, which has 5 HDD's in it - the ATI Silencer hit the hard drive. Modding it wouldn't have helped either, not without slicing up the fan blades. I wound up selling it and getting the VGA Silencer.

Stock cooling was starting to run really hot. I want this 9800P to last me at least 8 months so I figured the Zalman would keep it from consuming itself.

First thing I did was remove the small fan and point a quiet 80mm fan at the stock heatsink. Very cool and quiet now. Nothing but hate for small fans. =)
