I'm giving my 9800SE to my brother and I was wondering if I should get a 9800Pro or X1600Pro. They're around $95 open box on Newegg. Do you guys have any other reccomendations? I would like to keep it under $100 since I dont game that much anymore, and when I do its Battlefield and FarCry.

If I were you, I would put the X800 cards into the comparison as well. ATI had been featuring the Pro for around $120 as a refurbished item, with a year-long warranty (but it does seem that they have exhausted the supply at that price). I used a 9800 XT for several months this year, in between an FX 5900 and an X800 XT-PE. The 9800 is an excellent card. I have no experience with an X1600.

Here is an excellent deal on an X850 Pro, however ($153 shipped)

That really blows the GTO at $135 into the weeds, doesn't it?

I'd take the x1600pro over the 9800, but you really won't see much of a difference (6600gt> x1600pro...6600gt>9800).

I'd take the x1600p. It has more shader power, so should do better in modern games, plus it might OC better due to smaller 90nm process.

no x850xl exist AFAIK! but yeah x800 and x850 would be a better choice imo...

I concur, The 800Xl 850 Pro will feel more like a upgrade than the 1600 pro. If your running a board with a APG port, the 800 850 will provide enough of a stop gap untill the DX10 cards come out next year.

where? AGP?

I looked for all these cards on the internet x850,x800xt and so on and so on.
Nowhere to be found new or refurbished, those deals are dead.

I found the x1600pro-- cheapest I found was 107.13 - http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=AT-A1600P&c=pw

Cheapest 9800pro was 119.00$ (total waste of money)

But neither of them cards are worth it. For 28 dollars more you get 25% percent more performance here http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe...oductCode=327703&prodlist=pricegrabber

Heres the benchmarks for battlefield 2 which the op plays, look at the difference.

And yes the card is a good overclocker. What i'm saying is save another 28 bucks and grab something that's actually an upgrade.

Edit: I never buy open box stuff.

For 135.00$ the 7600gs still is faster than the x800GTO In Battlefield as you can see.
Look at 1280x 1024 in both these examples.

GTO here http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2656&p=6

The x800pro is a little out of his price range at $150.oo. You can compare that card to a 7600gt which will kill it.
