i'm looking to buy a new graphic card for my girl friend's computer. right now she has a Sapphire 9600pro 128mb. she's been playing sims 2 university and has been complaning about the lag and the loading time. so for her birthday i'm going to buy her a new graphic card and some ram. i'm thinking about the 9800pro or the leadtek 6600gt 8x. i can not decide between these two cards because my cousin is telling me to go with ati because the company is better. i don't realy care, i just want to know which card would perform better.

any info would be great

ram: pdp 512 pc3200 (also getting another 1g of ram for her b-day)

get the 6600gt. there's nothing wrong with leadtek. i love my leadtek 6800nu.

here's some benchmarks of 9800 pro vs 6600GT in Sims 2.

ty for ur reply. i think i have made up my mind. i'm going to go with the leadtek 6600gt. here is another question that i hope someone can answer. she has a 19 inch lcd screen, and what i want to know is that will the quality of the card affect quality of the picture. not in game play but in playing dvd and such.

yeah it can affect 2d quality. but don't worry about it, the 2d quality on every graphics card, in most cases, is virtually identical. I can't tell the difference between my old graphics card and my new one. if your lcd has a DVI connector on the back, use it instead of the VGA connector. the 6600GT either has a DVI and a VGA on it, or it has both DVI connectors, the DVI connector being wider. if your monitor came with a dvi cable and has a dvi port, it will be better quality than using the VGA connector.

avoid the XFX brand if you can. go with the Leadtek and you'll be happy.
make sure you get an agp 8x card as they were originally pci express. the link below is a leadtek with agp 8x.

Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/HDTV-Out, AGP 8X, Model "A6600 GT TDH" -RETAIL

6600GT is a sound investment. It'll be a good card for a few years IMO. I got a Leadtek 6800GT, and outside of an issue with it ticking when I play SWG, I'm very happy with it. I haven't had any issues with it playing The Sims 2, so you should be fine. Their RMA turn around is pathetic though. (Admittedly, they were out of the 6800GTs when I sent mine in, but waiting a month for a replacement card is nutty).
