9800pro -> 9800XT bios flashing ?

I was reading somewhere else about the bios flashing to make a 9800pro into an XT. Searched on the forums couldnt find anything about it. Is it a risky process? I checked my card and i do have the samsung ram, do I need to have the 256mb version pro or will it work w/ the 128mb as well? where can I get all the files for it and instructions so I dont ruin it @,.@! also is it worth the risk to do it? any help would be appreciated, thanks

Why would you want to flash it to an XT? Why not just overclock the card under the current BIOS? AFAIK the only difference between the XT and a Pro is clock/mem speed and the auto-overclock feature and since you'd be overclocking anyway why bother?

+ you would need a card diode, which 9800pro doen't have, to run override. Just overclock your card, you may get higher than XT speeds.

Yeah, and as McArra said, the overclock feature wouldn't work without the thermal sensor. I've got a 9800NP flashed to a Pro with the VGA Silencer and aluminum RAMSinks attached. It's clocked to 409/391 with no artifacts. From the benchmark I looked at a little while back my card was scoring better than an XT at default speeds.

thanks for the info guys, I just OC'ed it and the difference is noticeable especially in halo... but about these ramsinks .. are they very helpful? where can i get em? could I remove them later on so it wouldn't void warranty? does my GPU really need a new cooler too, or is stock ok? thanks.. ^^

The RAMSinks I got were from SVC.com. IMO the RAMSinks made a bigger difference in my overclock. I went from 398 core and 348 memory to 409 core and 391 memory. I've seen others with the same VGA Silencer get better overclocks of their core after installing it. If I wasn't so lazy I'd open the case and see if I could repaste and reseat my cooler and see if I can overclock my core more.

The RAMSinks have a peeloff sticky pad on them so I guess you could install them and remove them later. I didn't try removing them so I don't know how easy they would come off, especially after running under high temps for a while. Either way I think it would void the warranty but as long as they came off without leaving any residue behind no one would probably notice.
