9800np vs 9800SE

What is the difference between the 9800 non pro and the 9800SE?

The 9800SE has 4 pipelines disabled. Depending on what one you get, you might be able to soft mod it.

I got a SE, cannot soft mod. Kinda sucks, but I'm happy with the card anyways.

There are 2 versions of the 9800SE.

9800SE ? 380/340?.256bit bus? L shaped memory configuration 2.8ns memory
9800SESE ? ? ? 325/250 ? 128bit bus ? I shaped memory configuration 4.0/3.6ns memory.

The faster 9800SE fares OK in the 3Dmark?s but it?s no faster than the 9600pro in the actual game benchmarks. The slower 128bit version is quite a bit slower than a 9600 pro.

So how do you know if you have a SE or a SESE? I'm looking to upgrade my GeForce 2 MX II 400 32mb piece of crap and I'm trying to figure what the best value Radeon is.

9800 se approx. performs the same as a 9600 pro

I would just stay away from any 9800SE (unless I was pretty well guaranteed a softmod to a 9800pro.). 9600pro is less expensive and probably consumes 1/2 the power.

I do not recommend that you get a 256mb 9600 pro. That is more memory than the card can benefit from and the ram is clocked 200mhz slower than the 128mb version.

Yup, as already pointed out 256MB 9600?s. are slower than the 128MB versions.

9800SE = POS
9800np = Not a POS.

The previous people in their thread already broke down the technical aspects. The 9800SE gives performance around a 9600 Pro.

Why bother with a 9600xt when 9800np's are almost as much. You also get half-life 2 with 9800np's now too.
