People, keep in mind that
1) We don't know are these numbers just bs
2) There aren't any drivers out that would really support 9800 GX2
3) ..which can mean a lot since this is card that uses SLI-solution

It doesn't mean this will be better...

Based on 8800GT/GTS vs. HD3870, it is almost certain that the 9800GX2 is going to bury the 3870X2. NVIDIA would really have to f@%$ this one up to lose.

Ahhhh, if 1 GT\GTS is better than 1 HD3xxx whatever, it stands to reason that 2 will be dont you think?

Man I just can't wait till these come out, PCI-E 2.0 is gonna be fun to have since the 3870x2 performs better in PCI-E 2.0 leading me to believe it exceeds the PCI-E 1 bandwidth limit, even if just by a little, and now this monster is going to be released, imagine the heat these would make in a Tri-SLI config on a 780i board 😀

When I moved to San Jose from LA last August the summer was cold for me 😛 so I'd welcome a dual use computer/heater 😀

In Jamaica, I don't need a heater. I like my PC nice and as icy as I can get it to be.

with the right drivers you don't need to make any mobo changes... for example, the audio cord for the CDROM is useless, any program I know of just reads the data off the CD, processess it, and then outputs it.

So I can easily see how they will use a driver that will intercept the audio output and send it to the video card.
But I've heard the DVI-to-HDMI adapters that AMD bundles with their cards are specially designed? (different from ordinary DVI-to-HDMI adapters)

that have to be, DVI can only contain video. HDMI can contain audio AND video. A standard convertor takes the video from DVI and leaves the audio blank. They need a special convertor that takes out inputs, video from DVI, and audio from another source.

Hah! I live in Finland and once our heating system was broken which is bad thing at January. There was first like 15c (60 fahrenheit) inside my room, but keeping computer at load status for long time -> 18c (65 fahrenheit)..T-shirt temperatures again 😀.

Anyone hear that the 8800 Ultra was just discontinued?

Seems like NVIDIA's getting ready to release their next uber-high end card... 🙂

Didn't hear that. Where did you get that info?

you don't get it. The hardware is as efficient as the software, as long as we don't get true 9800gx2 drivers we cannot estimate the actual performance. You might as well add 30% extra frames to an 8800 Ultra benchmarks but that's inappropriate.

Yep.. so these scores would be too high what you get from 8800 GTS 512MB SLI tests (even with this downclocked situation).. because 9800 GX2 won't be anything else in performance than 8800 GTS 512MB SLI (with question mark in clock frequencies)

9800GX2 is not a true SLI, it's two G92's stamped to one board, although many of the options will be similar to SLI it still requires a new driver design to work correctly.

WRRRRRRRONG!!!!

It's two boards bolted together joined by an sli bridge.

Is there:

1 PCB with 2 GPUs
or
2 PCBs with 1 GPU each

????

whatever it is you guys seem to miss my point. You are all determined to see that thing perform badly 🙂

Well, it's not our problem- it's nvidia's.

The 3870x2 is one PHYSICAL board but the electronic design is that of two seperate units... actually three... in the middle you have a splitter chip that splits PCIe 16x to two PCIe 8x... then to it connect two seperate bus plugs, each going to its own processor with its own ram, with the SLI bridge printed into the board itself... So while it appears as one board to the naked eye, its multiple logical boards.
This GX2 is actually two physically seperate boards LITERALLY bolted together (with bolts!)

The only difference in performance between this and two seperate cards in sli is:
1. The stock clock speeds might be different.
2. The PCIe x16 is split into two x8... so its like running it on a two x8 board... it MIGHT be slower, depending on the card's architecture. (the 3870x2 is about half the speed on PCIv1.1 compared to v2 because of that splitting into two 8x lanes)

Somebody hazard a guess as to a price on this. I'm going to toss out $650 to start.
