My 8800gts has no problems running both of my lcd's at 1280x1024 in sc, however, after trying out a 9800gx2 i seem to have lost my 2nd display.

Hooking the dvi port to one screen and no other cables results in random bsod's, stop errors and hard locks. If I use both dvi, can I get my dual display back in sc?

I hooked up my 3007 to the second DVI last night, worked fine after I figured out the multi monitor settings. (I'd never used multi monitor before, but I'm hooked on the 3d gaming and wanted to get some use out of the 3007)

Too new to the multi monitor stuff to have good troubleshooting tips for you, but it should work.

You might try starting a thread in nZone.com's driver forum for some user to user support if no one helps here.

Corsair VX550, should be enough to at least TRY it.

When I get the 2nd display to actually work, when I launch SC, it says I need to verify my video card meets the minimum requirements.

What drivers are you using? IIRC Release 180 drivers were the first to fix multi-monitor support in SLI. Try the latest 181.22 WHQLs and see if they fix it.

Going back to your OP, how are you connecting the monitors? Each monitor connected via DVI? That should be right, then it should just be a matter of setting the monitors up correctly. If connecting both via DVI is giving you BSOD, that could mean a driver or hardware issue.

One thing you can try in the drivers:

  • open Nvidia Control Panel
  • click Manage 3D settings
  • choose global settings
  • Find "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration"
  • Try various settings with "multiple GPU" or "multiple-display"
I believe there should also be an "SLI tab" that should let you mess with the different displays, along with a "Set Up multiple displays" tab. Ultimately I think you'll want to run in extended mode and not spanned mode, if it gives you the option, so that you have 2 x 1280x1024 monitors and not a single 2560x1024 monitor. Kinda surprised honestly no one with SLI has helped you out with this, multi-monitor support is pretty common and very handy for SC.

Both via DVI gives me a "your video card doesn't meet the minimum requirements" error.

If I use the HDMI AT ALL it causes hard locks, stop errors and BSOD's while booting.

Sounds like it could be a faulty card if its giving those errors by just plugging in a 2nd monitor. Have you verified all 3 inputs work if they're the only inputs being used? ie. single monitor to each one. I'd look into RMA if this isn't working, as it should definitely be supported with Release 180+ drivers.

I've never gotten the HDMI to work. I've got another cable to try yet though.

From what I've heard, I need to use the HDMI and the DVI beside it for this to work.

I believe that is so. NVIDIA Multi Monitor support You need Windows Vista and hook up both monitors to the same physical card. A GX2 is really two cards so you can't use the DVI ports on both.

Vista is not required. I've used multiple display in XP already with my 8800GTS.
