Scores about 17k in 3dMark06 with the mods. I actually thought it would clock further and WITHOUT a vmod since the 8800GTS can do over 800MHz without hardmods.

If it needs a vmod to hit 900MHz then I doubt it will be a whole lot faster than a 8800GTS.

It does seem to have faster memory then the 8800GTS, but other then that it seems the appeal of the 9800GTX is Tri-SLI with a G92 card.

So Nvidia took a 8800 GTS, overclocked it, added another power connector and the 9800 GTX was born. Great!!! :(

Maybe Nvidia thinks that we are retards and we'll buy it just because it has that GTX at the end.

It worked for the last 2 generations... :p

Early adopters pay, and nVidia is glad to take the money.

Not everyone reads enthusiast forums, compares benchmarks and makes a purchasing decision based on their needs and $/performance. In fact, *most* people do not.

If NV makes it clear that this is the best you can buy (qualified by 'single GPU single slot') and puts a convincingly hefty price tag on it people will line up to buy it.

This card will have an MSRP of $299~349. If it was any higher, than i would be utterly unimpressed.
