My current workstation has Vista64bit Biz and a Quadro. Run Photoshop and Maya just fine but. Everything eles is less than desirable. So, I need a system that will run video, quicktime and flash pluging fo IE perfectly and a few games on the side(like Spore and a few RGP's)

My first question,
Which Vista? Im happy with the way Vista biz is. Lean and mean but want something that will work with games and video well...
(needs to play video fast and smooth)

System specs thus far:

Vista32bit(?)
Intel Q9450
Intel DP45SG mobo
2GB(PC3-10600)1333mhz
WD VelociRaptor(120mb sustained/10K RPM & 300GB)
9800GTX(GT200 later)
PCP&C 750W PSU

Would yall go with a higher watt like the PCP&C 860W?

Any feedback is welcome and thanks guys.....

Welcome to the AT Forums.:) With as many forums as we have it can be difficult to find the right place to ask a question, but we do ask that our members give it a best-shot. In this case since your question involves a range of hardware, we'll move it to General Hardware. You may want to go search the Operating Systems forum for an answer to your Vista question, it has been asked many times now.

This isn't really the forum for OS/ general hardware advice, but hopefully it will get moved to the right forum.

For Vista, the best version for most people is Home Premium. That's what I have and IMO it has the best balance of features vs. price; it is the second cheapest version of Vista yet it contains all the important features like Media Center and Aero. There are people who will want the additional features in Ultimate, but I don't and most home users will not.

You'll have to decide between the 32-bit and 64-bit version of Vista; At this point, 64-bit is pretty mature and there's no reason not to go with it IMO. I've used both 32-bit and 64-bit and I don't see any major benefits to 32-bit (other than for me, because I have a Phenom and they suck at overclocking in 64-bit Vista).

There's no reason you need more than a 750W PSU. 750W is really more than you need unless you are going for SLI. A good power supply like the Corsair HX 620 would be more than enough for a quad-core + GTX 280.

The 750W PSU is even ridicilously overpowered. That system will pull something like 350W.

You don't need a $300-400 card to run IE plug-ins flawlessly or play RPGs on the side.

It would help to know what Spore's requirements are, but I don't think a 9800GTX or GT200 series card are going to be the wisest expenditure of money. As stated, 750W is more than you need for either one of those cards in a single-card setup.

DDR3 is also going to do nothing but punch a hole in your wallet. There's no appreciable performance difference over DDR2.

Anyhow, I think the best way to go about this would be for you to list the specs of your current system. It sounds to me like you're throwing a lot of money at a problem that might not be that expensive to fix.

^ Agreed.

I saw 9800GTX and video, quicktime, flash plugin... I thought it was a joke.
