I doubt I am actually going to do this setup, but how much would be gained if I were to do it? Right now I get about 14,685 in 3DMark06 and I can play most of my games the way I like them, but would I get decent boost in power, or will it be minor? I have a 28" monitor, but that doesn't seem to hurt my FPS all that much. I get 150+ in CS:Source, 100+ in Left 4 Dead, and 100+ in TF2. I will probably be looking to get more games soon, so I am just wondering if adding a second one would help a bit.

I am not interested in getting a 260, 280, or higher. Just inquiring about the SLI performance right now.

Well, for the Half-Life 2 engine everything seems to run over 60+ FPS so you probably won't see any difference in performance. However, in more graphically intensive games you will probably see an improvement. Something like COD5 at 1920x1200 w/ 4x AA would probably make your current card struggle some. Keep in mind though that SLI does have some performance issues with certain games so just be aware of that. I recommend like Qbah said to go check out some benchmarks. That could help you out with your decision.

Definitely check out benchmarks and look out for the games you play. There are benefits and pitfalls to going with any multi GPU setup. For the most part however, SLI does have extensive SLI profiles for most games out there, and that list always grows. And generally, if you have a 28" monitor, I'm guessing it's 19x12 native, A single 9800GTX will struggle a bit in some games up in that area especially with IQ options cranked and AA turned up. Two of them together will "usually" beat out a single GTX280/285. There will be times when SLI will not scale and you won't see a benefit of two cards, but this is pretty rare.

at 1920 a single 9800gtx will have trouble maxing some games for sure but if this is a 512mb model then I wouldnt fool with buying another one. 512mb is already not really enough for Far Cry2 and maybe a couple other games at that res depending on the settings and adding a second card wont fix that. I would never fool with multi gpus unless I had no other options. personally at 1920 I would get a 4870 1gb, gtx260, gtx280, or gtx285. looking at your specs I also would recommend 4 gigs of ram if possible.
