How much is the 9800GTX+ supposed to be at places like Newegg

$229.99 is likely the UMAP price. Expect stock cards around there, and some promotions/rebates below that. Also, expect factory overclocked cards to be higher.

man I'm hoping NV will release a "9800GTX+ X2" version so bad. My mobo is Intel P35 based and i can't do SLI, and I don't want to do CF either because CF doesn't scale well, but I want a "dual GPU" solution bad! Cmon NV, make it happen.

Man I'd be all over a "9800GX2+" if it's under $300. I can imagine such a card would be the mother of all price/performance card!

My 4850 is good, but I'm having so much issues with it in games and crashes often if my room gets over 92-93F (case wide open and a big fan blowing in!)

I have a 500W powersupply and I don't think I can run a current 9800GX2 because of the power draw. But I'm thinking a 55nm "9800GX2+" (if it exits) is ok with my power supply.

If such a thing were available, unlikely that they would be under $300 since the performance would be higher than the existing GX2, which is close to the GTX 280 in performance. Also, with the 9800 GTX+ priced at $230, the GX2+ would likely be closer to twice that.

I don't think it works that way. Sure, the die shrink can help with power draw, however that is negated by the higher clocks.

If you have around $300 to spend, then go for the GTX 260. It isn't just the GPU that is faster. It has much more memory bandwidth than the G9x GPUs used in the GX2/GTX/GTX+ and almost twice the texture memory (the 1GB of the GX2 is really 2x512MB, so can't have more than 512MB textures). Also, the GTX 260 should be better in "other" stuff like CUDA, PhysX, Folding.

It all comes down to how much money you have to spend. At around $150 after rebates, the 4850 is tough to beat. The 9800 GTX/GTX+ at $200-230 is pretty nice (much better cooler than 4850). The 4870 and GTX 260 are really nice at $300.
