9800GTX Baking Question

I have a 9800GTX that is semi-screwed. I get colored dots/lines at the BIOS boot up screen and windows does not seem to recognize the card fully.

My question is if I bake this card, is there a good/any possibility it will stop working completely? Right now I can still use it for the internet and videos, just little hiccups here and there. But I cannot play video games(was right in the middle of Skyrim when it screwed up 😡 )

So what are the chances baking will screw the card up more? I DO NOT want to be w/o a computer and I cannot afford a new card atm.

Thanks

pretty small in you adhere to the instructions carefully

I've only baked a card once, and it was a 9800GT. What I did was leave it in the system with my other cards and turned the fan off.

It quickly reached 100C+ in a minute or so then I powered downed took it out and turned the fans back on. It's worked fine ever since...

However the reason it died and got that 43 error is because the old fan stopped working and I never noticed.

If you can't afford to replace it now, and still want to browse the web as you are I'd just wait until you have the cash to replace the card then attempt it. That way if it does break it you can quickly replace it, or keep the cash for something else if it works.
