im waiting to see if this deal from amazon comes through and i remembered...the 9700/9800 have moliex power connectors, and i thought ive read that ATI suggests a 350w min psu for this....that right or was i thinking of something else?

i realized i dont have a 350w psu...i have a liteon 300w thats a server replacement psu, and i figured it hold out fine (with a 9800, 1700+ oced, 2 hard drives, 2 optical drives)

think if i get the 9800 i oughtta upgrade? dont feel like it but itd be better than ruining something

Two optical drives and two hard drives will put a subsantial load on the power supply. In addition to everything else it is very possible a 300w will not cut it if you are running media on both optical drives.

You should be fine. As far as what ATI actually recommends its 300 according to my manuel. Mine is a 9800pro AIW and I would think normal 9800pros would be the same or even less.

keep wondering about it, no loss if i dont, but my orders been up for days and isnt cancelled yet. go figure

anyway, if i dont get it now, ill get one or something similar (9700 pro or perhaps an nvidia card) once the new stuff comes out, since the prices should end up dropping rather nicely

What do you mean by this? On a tangent, I just picked up a 9700 Pro card and since installing in my system (2 optical, 2 HD's, 300 Watt Antec), the power supply seems to be acting up and making VERY weird sounds. Something is coming from my cpu and it's LOUD! Am I mistaken?

from the cpu? maybe the fan on top of the heatsink has something in it. if something seems to be acting up change it back, seriously, dont blow up a psu. i had a psu die on me and took 2 hard drives with it :(

I *had* a 9700 Pro I was running on a 330 watt PS. The fan busted so I sent it back in.

BTW, it is a Antec True Power.
