9800 pro to xt question

If the ati tools says my core is a R350 is that for sure? I just purchased this card not even a week ago and i'm kinda bumed that a brand new card has an old core, any other why of checking without pulling the hsf off?

-is it a 128mb or 256mb? If its a 128mb dont consider flashing it just clock it up to xt speeds.

Whats the difference? 9800Pro should easily overclock to 412mhz from 380. Either way, overclocking it even to 450 wont gain you negligible improvement in the most intensive games since you need GDDR3 memory and 256mb of it.

The only reason 9800xt performs better in older DX8.1 games is due to extra 128mb of ram. The difference in overclocking isnt enough to have 2x differences in certain benchmarks.

At the same time in very intensive games (DX9.0 ie. Doom 3, UT2k4, etc) it makes no difference as both cards will be fairly slow.

I have never heard of ati tool being wrong.

a 9800pro is plenty fast for a 1024x786 gamer.

ah well thx for the input, although the xt did get about 500 more marks in those charts, guess i just need to upgrade to a 6800gt (-=

bah! just found out that the ati tool was wrong, i removed the fan, I DO HAVE A R360 core! , so the tool wa wrong and im going to set my card up.

awsome! Got it flashed to a 9800xt. Ran 3dmark 03 here are some scores:

3dmark 03 1076x768 on stock 9800pro - 5860

3dmark 03 1076x768 on flashed 9800xt - 6545

Thats +685 marks.

Not bad for a simple flash.
