9800 Pro Overclocking guides

I'm not 100% sure how to overclock my 9800 Pro, i wan't to be confident i'm doing the right thing so my card is VERY SAFE from getting messed up, that is not an option, in other words . I don't think i can flash mine, nor do i want to. Can anyone link me up to a good guide? Thanky.

I would start with ATItool, it's pretty easy to use, and it has a "find max core/mem clocks" option that let's it automatically overclock your card in a safe way, you should give it a try. Then you can manualy increase your core and mem speeds by 5mhz (or lower) and test it then increase again until you hit a level where you start seeing artifacts on the screen in 3D applications, then revert back to a lower mhz and start testing your video card at this point, use 3DMark, or play Doom 3 or FarCry for 15-30minutes, if everything's stable, that means you've hit your max speed for your videocard, and you'll be safe (hopefully) at this point.
9800Pro normally max between 400-440Mhz core with stock cooling, but using an aftermarket cooler (IE VGA Silencer) is recommended when OCing because they become really hot after OCing.
I don't know where to find overclocking guides, but you might find some at Rojakpot, not sure though.

Alright, i'll try that, thanks. I got a VGA Silencer 3 on there, can't see it's temps though, heh. Is the "find max core/memclocks" pretty accurate most of the time?

I had great sucess with it. Once you get both of your max and set the clock try Aquamark or 3dMark 03 or 05 to see how it handles it.

This program keeps telling me i have "Temporal AA" enabled on my system, and to disable it. I turned AA off as far as i can tell and it's still giving me this message, how can i fix it?

Alrighty, so Temporal AA should be off by default, does this message just come up everytime for everyone? I don't think i have it on, but the program keeps bugging me.

Well, lemme ask this. Is there anyone who uses the Omega Drivers and AtiTool who doesn't get that message?

I use an older version of the Omega drivers (4.8 I think) and I don't get that error message when starting ATI Tool.

What are the max stable overclocks that you're getting?

I just purchased a Sapphire 9800NP that has been flashed to a Pro. Using the Silencer v2, I'm able to OC to 420 on the core and around 375 on the memory.

I'm just wondering how this compares to what everyone else is getting.

Think i'll go back to the ATI drivers for overclocking, then after i'm done go back to the omegas...i can do that right? =p

Using the ATI Tool, I just set my MSI 9800 Pro (R360) to 430/366(732)....Note that it does show up as a 9800XT in device manager and ATI Tool and NO flashing was done.

I don't know about your "TAA" problem, are you using Omegas 4.10beta? I haven't tried those. So ATItool doesn't let you overclock at all? Or can you just ignore this message and start overclocking?
If you revert back to ATI's drivers, OC, then go back to omega you'll loose the overclock settings, so the best thing you can do is go back to ATI's drivers, find your max clocks using ATItool, uninstall ATI's drivers, then install omegas with radlinker and OC using Radlinker to the max clocks you achieved with ATItool before.

edit: I just had the same "TAA" problem in ATItool using ATI's official 4.9 cats, I disabled TAA and it worked fine, why don't you just disable TAA? You don't have to disable AA, just TAA.

I use Radclocker in conjunction with the official Cat 4.9s (until I get my X800 Pro). Radclocker is what Omega uses to overclock with, you can install it yourself and it adds a Coolbits-like tab to your ATI control panel tabs. You can then manually set your clocks.

No need to use Omega drivers and switch back and forth. It's a waste of good gaming time. You did buy a 9800 Pro to game with, right?

I might also add that you are not using your video card within the terms of your warranty so you will not get any customer support if things go wrong while using the Omega drivers. But it's just like modding, if the risks are worth it to you then go for it. I do phyiscally mod my hardware.

Oh, one more thing (postcount ++), to disable TAA, you should be able to do so by enabling custom settings, unchecking TAA, and then unchecking use custom settings. This worked for me with my stock ATI Catalyst drivers.

I have been using Omega Drivers also, but some times i get the same error massage. Then i disable is it from 3D option in the control pannel.

Don't think the new omegas have any Temporal AA option.

But the question is, can i overclock with the official ATI drivers, then switch back to the Omegas and not screw up my overclock?
