9800 pro or 6800 le?

which one is cheaper?

which camp (ati or nvidia) would you rather side with?

is heat/power an issue?

The 6800le might OC better than a 9800pro, but the 9800 pros can come with 256bit memroy interfaces.

the 6800le also USED to be able to unclock into a 6800vanilla or GT specs, but i think they dont do that anymore

I bought my Dad a 6800LE for 179... I was able to Unlock all 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex shaders.

The ram is at 700Mhz and the core is at 325. Both can be overclocked pretty decently. Even without overclocking, the performance gains from unlocking all pipelines and shaders is a 27% performance gain. I tested this with my fathers card... Works well, but it is not gaurenteed to unlock all pipelines and shaders... So, it is somewhat of a risk... Regardless, the card rocks.

Don't bother with the LE. Get the 6800 plain (non GT/Ultra). For a few extra $ more you have 4 more guaranteed pipes and one more guaranteed vertex processor.

6800 le are same as 6800 plain (non ultra)
see my other post in general hardware section

Excuse me? They're the same? ... I'd love to see you justify that.

as seen by the aobve posts, it's a common mistake ot confuse 6800le and 6800. for the price, 6800le has the potential to be a great value, but it's a big gamble.

Exactly what I did - got the NU/Vanilla because I didn't want to be stuck with an 8 pipe
card if the unlock procedure was unsuccessful. But it was and I am happy as hell.

At this point it's worth noting that even if you get the 6800NU/LE to the same clock speeds
as the GT/Ultra it won't perform the same because of the RAM.

NU/LE = DDR1 RAM ~ 128mb memory interface
GT/Ultra = DDR3 RAM ~ 256mb memory interface

i i called them they say you can overclock 6800 le to match the power of 6800 gt

the reviews on newegg say that the newer ones that newegg is shipping arnt the same core as the old ones and so WILL NOT unlock, iirc.

*prepares to get flamed for reading newegg reviews*

u mean the 6800 le?
my cousin ordered the same one..

i readed the latest review, one person unlocked it to 16 pixels that mean 6800 and 6800 le are same.. i called leadtec companies, they said its same after you overclock and unlock

6800le - way cheap, and even hotter if it unlocks. 256bit memory bus is nice too. Mine unlocked to 16/5 with >10K 3d03 and >4K 3d05

um unlocking to 16p6vs is no where near 100%, its in the range of 10-20% or so. 12pipe 5vs is more attraniable at 50% or so.
