Xbitlabs reports the 9800 is a little delayed until April, with the 9600 a bit more, appearing in May.

VR Zone says the NV35 (made by IBM) should also appear in May!

Lets hope its true - we need some more competition in the gfx card market at the top end again :)
Now where can I pick up a cheap 9700Pro?!!

Wow, this latest IBM deal is really an nVidiots' wet dream come true!

I remember correctly, Xbit predicted that R350 would be a .13mu part and RV350 would be .15mu. We'll see if they're right next month.

Wasn't that announced on a ATi shareholder call or something?

Likely because ATi is having problems with the switch to 0.13um . (Design, Bugs, Yeilds, etc...... All the same crap nVidia just finished going through likely) But that's just a guess :p

I thought the R350 was .15u and the RV350 was .13u. I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure that's how its going to work.

Edit: ^^^^ beat me to it. :)

I thought the 9800 used a .15 chip?

Two words:

Paper Launch.

ATi "launched" their new DX9 parts to steal the thunder from nV's FX line launch. No big deal, a smart move on their part IMO. It was pretty obvious that would be the case since its been near a month since .13 micron RV350 parts were announced, yet we have yet to see benchmarks of reviewing samples.

The R350 on the other hand, is a .15 micron part. Its delays are probably attributed to the fact that ATi's poor R300 yields (40% quoted from their latest earnings/investor release) are making it difficult to handpick the best overclocking R300 chips to stamp with R350. :p

Bentvalve & Chilled To be honest I can't remember, I know they said something on a conf call about how they were breaking up their 0.15um and 0.13um line ups but I don't recall the details anymore.

Heh yes and no. I seem to manage to retain an unusually high amount of basically useless information re: Cache configurations of CPUs, IPs of servers I haven't used in years, temps of my systems (home, work, friends, family), configs (home, work, friends, family). I suppose no one can remember absolutely everything, but I can't count the number of time that I surpised collegues spotuing off numbers from a spec page or review I read 2 years ago. And I'd probably remember the stuff about the ATi lineup if I cared but personally I'm still a nVidia fan, I try not to put ATi down since they ARE a Canadian company (and I'm Canadian), they are (or were until just recently) the underdog, competition is GREAT for the consumer etc.... But I still think their drivers have a good way to go yet to catch up to nVidia. I guess what it all boils down to is people retain what they're interested in and work with alot. If I was interested in purchasing a ATi product I'd probably know tonnes and tonnes of facts and useless information about the cards and company.

My god, the posts just keep getting worse every day... :D

If yields of the R300 are any indication, ATI could have yields in excess of 90% using TSMC's proven copper process, although without a low k dielectric.

There is no need for ATI to get the 9800pro out-the-door, when Nvidia realeses the nv35 they can release the 9800 till then it's all gravy.

ATI's R350 in mass production

If it has been delayed, that's not going to make OEMs who are already advertising "Systems now shipping with Radeon 9800 Pro" very happy. AlienWare is at least one; you can see that ad on the back of the latest MaximumPC.

Here we go again. :frown:

for the LAST TIME, the R350 is not the same core as an R300, which means they're NOT just finding high-clock R300's to re-badge "R350".
Good grief...

And if you want to freak out about yields, you should check into nVidia's NV30! Talk about bad yields? There's a good reason for lots of cheap NV30 "by-product" cards coming out.

I don't really think they need to push the 9800 Pro just yet. I think the 256mb of RAM can wait a little. I think they should have kept more time before the launch to simply give them time to get the parts delivered on time. Then they could even change it to an earlier date if they felt they were good to go. Anyone else feel this way?
